The Smoking Gun - Cheney gets a citation
p://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0213061cheney1.html

Carries no penalty or fine. He did not purchase the appropriate upland game bird stamp.

So why the delays? Why not tell the pretzeldente? Why hide if it was 'just a hunting accident" of the kind that happen every day?

1. Ranch personnel turned police away?
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 07:35 PM by OzarkDem
The Sherriff's office was notified of the incident shortly after it happened but when a Kenedy County Officer responded, they wouldn't let him in the gate of the ranch because "the personnel manning the front gate didn't have any information or weren't aware of the incident".

Someone called the cops, but when they arrived, the ranch personnel wouldn't let them in.

:o

4. An excerpt from Think Progress
Texas Sheriff Barred From Interviewing Cheney About Shooting Incident

CBS News reports that local law enforcement officials were prevented from interviewing Vice President Cheney after he accidentally shot a 78-year-old man during a hunting trip:

CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer reports Texas authorities are complaining that the Secret Service barred them from speaking to Cheney after the incident. Kenedy County Texas Sheriffs Lt. Juan Guzman said deputies first learned of the shooting when an ambulance was called.

7. Wouldn't even let them on the property
isn't that interfering with an investigation of a crime? I can see if they wanted to prevent Cheney from talking, but they didn't have a reason to keep them from investigating the accident.

11. So what are they hiding?
If Cheney is so innocent why are they hiding and sending out the talking points?

2. It says "Game Law Violation"
He violated the law.

Gee, if Al Gore as VP had violated a law, the rethugs would have been on him like leeches.

3. Hmmm...
In most states, you can hunt on private land regardless. I remember my uncle shooting at quail on his ranch in Idaho and having the local cop come by for fresh bird... This was a bird farm, shooting in a barrel situation, on private land. I dunno...

6. I don't see anywhere on the citation where they ask
if alcohol was involved? How come that isn't a routine question on these things?
