CNN - Howard Kurtz rips Steven Colbert
OMG!!! If this isn't an indication of how complicit the MSM has become...

If you missed it, Kurtz starts out stating that "SC used to be a funny guy" and then rips him as taking himself too seriously, being pompous and even show a clip of how he transitions from his desk to the guest set as example.

My note to Howard:

"In a “WORD” Satire… regarding Steven Colbert and the Report, get a dictionary or better yet get someone to explain it to you, preferably in small words, exactly what it means. What I find ironic is your cavalier/catty rant on Steve Colbert when he and Jon Stewart highlight issues and ask questions that no one at CNN or elsewhere have the balls to cover or ask.

Here’s another word… goodbye. I’ve been tuning in to your show on Sundays morning but will now turn elsewhere to gage just how far up the corporate/Bush administrations ass the mainstream media can stuff it’s head."

26. I know just what pissed off Kurtz too.
It's when Colbert thanked all those Republicans for voting against their interests, which have resulted in more income for him through the tax cuts to the rich.

Of course, we know that SC makes fun of blowhards like him (mostly Dildo Reilly).
And deep down, Kurtz must know that too - but the infotainment tool that he is needs to hit "the enemy" no matter what.
And that's the power of satire!

7. And Kurtz would know funny how?
Does the phrase "Over the top," mean anything to Kurtz? There are no bears in Manhattan
so S.C. rant against them is called humor.

I had the same thing w/ Fargo ...... some people never got it that it was "humor," and people
do not put worms on people's desk tops in Minnesota all the time.

34. Kurtz is missing the irony gene.
Satire is a complex molecule that requires irony. Kurtz dreams of having Colbert's media savvy but without an irony gene, that door is closed to him. Pouty Kurtz just enviously watches others actually do satire.

Kurtz's vainglorious bloviating of Stephen shows his weakness. Apparently Stephen's balls irk him, making him sweat, causing him to lose his balance and fall onto a patty of cow feces in his pasture of wrongness.

Today's tip of the hat, wag of the finger goes to you, Howie. :P

<snip>
KURTZ: Time now for "The Kurtz Word," and that word is pomposity.

Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking this is a cheap rip-off of what Stephen Colbert does on his show. Like that guy he hasn'tripped off everyone else on cable. O'Reilly, Scarborough, he's copied them all.

But you know, there was a time when this Comedy Central clown wasn't a walking, talking embodiment of pomposity. That was when he was willing to come on this show.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

STEPHEN COLBERT, COMEDY CENTRAL: We have no desire to make anybody look like a blithering idiot. But we do love it when they do.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

KURTZ: But now that he's not just Jon Stewart's spear carrier, now that he sits behind a big, fat desk at "The Colbert Report," it has totally gone to this man's head.

Here, look what happens when he brings on a guest.

Pathetic. He invented one measly little word, "truthiness," and he got all huffy when the AP used it without crediting him, the great Stephen Colbert. And he got full of himself when, in a fit of temporary insanity, "Newsweek" put his mug on the cover.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

COLBERT: We have changed the media. You may recall that for years now "Newsweek" magazine has not had a picture of me on the cover. Well, now it does. Take a look.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

KURTZ: And then he was named to deliver the laughs at the upcoming White House Correspondents Dinner. And he refused to comment about this alleged honor. Got that? Mr. fake journalist couldn't be bothered to talk to real journalists who actually have to practice truthiness.

I guess America really loves pomposity. What's next, a phony journalist hosting the Oscars?

And by the way, I am not bitter that Colbert has not invited me on his show. No way. He would have to beg to get me on that thing, or at least be really nice to me, or at least place the call himself, or maybe shoot me an e-mail, or have his guy call my guy.

And that's "The Kurtz Word."

Well, that's it for this edition of RELIABLE SOURCES.

I'm Howard Kurtz.

Please join us again next Sunday morning, 10:00 a.m. Eastern, for another edition and another look at the media

44. Kurtz is so unfunny and untalented, you can't tell ...
But he did end off with this:

"And by the way, I am not bitter that Colbert has not invited me on his show. No way. He would have to beg to get me on that thing, or at least be really nice to me, or at least place the call himself, or maybe shoot me an e-mail, or have his guy call my guy."

The Colbert Report has had some pretty heavy-hitter guests of late, and it's probably the 'in' thing to get an invite to appear - it means you're a 'somebody' in the media.

Maybe this was Howie's ham-fisted way of wrangling an invitation ...

46. I watched it and that's what I thought
He even had the COlbert "Word" screen beside him (including the bar bisecting the O) commenting on what he was saying.

The problem is that Colbert always embraces buffoons to prove a point and Kurtz's attempt at humor failed because it appeared critical.

He's as bad at comedy as he is at media reportage. That's all.

The timing of this is too funny to be true too since last night a group of myself and six friend were discussing the office and the Colbert Report around drinks and EVERYONE was busting a gut talking about and imitating Colbert high-fiving the crowd etc as he goes over to meet his guest who's seated in the shadow. I love it every time I see it.

I love TDS, but I laugh my ass off at Colbert.

Golden Globe should be given to the "Word of the Day" for best supporting actor.

Careful, Howie. Real comedy is dangerous and should be left to professionals.

If this was indeed an attempt at humor (by Kurtz, which I doubt) I'm sure that it will be clarified at some point in the near future.

"And by the way, I am not bitter that Colbert has not invited me on his show. No way. He would have to beg to get me on that thing, or at least be really nice to me, or at least place the call himself, or maybe shoot me an e-mail, or have his guy call my guy."

Hehehehe!

Guess who's pissing off the White House these days?
Guess who's whoring for the White House these days?

Who in their right fucking mind would even waste two minutes listening to Howard Kurtz?

Steven Colbert is an entertainer for christ fucking sake. And Kurtz is picking him out to condemn? Please! Perhaps Howard Kurtz should be looking at his beloved master, eh? This is too funny.

... that it's even more enjoyable when he cracks up. I also liked the time when the female poker champ razzed him about "Dungeons and Dragons" -- Colbert looked genuinely delighted that she had teased him about his geekiness.

(Completely as an aside here -- I think he looks really cute when he breaks character and laughs like that!)

It'd be like the NYT's criticising the political cartoonists for breaking a news story... UNREAL.

93. I saw it & thought it was a great promo for the Colbert Report myself
Don't flame me, but I thought the "Kurtz word" idea was pretty clever (I took it as a spin on "curse word"). The whole bit was a takeoff on S.C.'s "The Word" segment, with written comments depicting things like "I'm not jealous of Stephen Colbert" etc. referring to Howie.

I'm not a H. K. fan, but I thought it was better than most stuff he has on his show. He's no Stephen Colbert, but I enjoyed the bit and it was CLEARLY a paen to "The Report", unless I missed something. Y'all need to lighten up a bit!
