Record Number of Inmates Killed Themselves in California Prisons Last Year

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, there were 44 suicides in an inmate population of nearly 164,000. It's a rate that approaches one a week, although inmates' attorneys have so far been able to confirm only 41 deaths as suicides. Either figure is up from 26 suicides in 2004, and exceeds the previous record of 36 deaths in 2003.

1. Prison sucks, I'd probably check out too.

If a had a long stretch to do I'd probably just kill myself. Lots of young people facing long terms decide to check out rather than face the endless predators and humiliation of prison life. Ending up in someone's trick bag is no way to live. A good friend of mine doing life tried to kill himself last year, I almost feel bad that he didn't succeed.
