It is Free Market for Us, Pro-Active Government for Corporations.

This afternoon the Senate is debating the creation of an asbestos trust fund bill, which will establish a $140 billion trust fund for victims of asbestos related disease. The fund will pay the victims and will shield the corporations from any legal action. The trust will be funded MOSTLY through contributions from asbestos manufactories and their insurance companies. The Federal Government will pony up the rest.

Listening to the debate it struck me, this is the same Senate that just a couple years back in a rush to see that we, the individual citizens, would be responsible for our financial actions, so they passed the bankruptcy bill.

It cannot be denied, the Republican Party is serving their masters well, hold you and me to the fire, while rescuing the corporations.

1. Totally...
The Bush Administration is very progressive when it comes to the assisting needy corporations. There has never been a time in history when companies have been such externalizers. Hell, the oil companies have the whole U.S. military protecting them while they steal Iraqi crude.

2. As MLK said
One of Dr. King's wonderful quotes is that the US economy is socialism for the rich and free enterprise for the poor.
