Tomorrow does not belong to me.
As I read DU and DUers thoughts, hopes and dreams about tomorrow I realize I am not included.

I am not included in tomorrow because in the natural progression of life my future is in the days I have left behind.

When I read of political happenings of tomorrow I find myself glossing over it because I will not be there. It will not affect me.

It is frustrating this feeling of defeat. I cannot speak for others in my age group but I am sorry I failed to deliver a better future to my children and grand children as well as to you and to your children and grand children.

Just so.

7. As long as the fight goes on
no one has failed

It can be something as simple as wearing a homemade t-shirt
as long as its something

just do something to make right wingers angry-because what makes them angry is truth, and truth is on OUR side

2. I feel the same way
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 04:44 PM by LSparkle
I used to have dreams but no more. I'm feeling absolutely ashamed of myself for not taking fuller advantage of the "American dream" while it WAS available to me. I never thought opportunity would fall away, but now I'm afraid it has.

3. "The future is no place to place your better days."
From a Dave Matthews song...

Keep writing, calling, talking and sharing your thoughts on DU. If you're in this world, you can do something...

"Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do."

4. As a women in her 30's....I have chosen not to have children..
for all of the reasons you have said....what future is there for them?? I can take care of myself and will fight for the freedom that others died to give me...but I will choose not to bring a life into a world where I can not be sure that their future is truly free...heck we think we are free but really we are not....

5. Defeat? Au Contraire!
We all stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us.

Though I'm only in my forties, I don't expect to see the culmination of my hopes in my lifetime either. All any of us can do is help things go the right direction while we're here and give the best advice we can to those younger than us. Ya know?

10. seventy one
last June. We were very active in politics in the sixties and seventies my wife and I. We saw many successes and an equal number of failures. But I always thought our efforts on both sides to be fairly honest and open. I do not see that anymore not even on the local level.

Very disappointing and depressing.

14. I'm sorry you are feeling so low about things
but I have a feeling you are not giving enough consideration to the model you have set, and the small differences you have made. None of us can change it all, but if you have helped and or changed for the good just one person, you had met your life debt, in my opinion.

Be good to yourself.

18. Cabin fever here in the north country
Cabin fever and lack of meaningful exercise leads to morbid thinking. It has been shut in weather the last couple of weeks.

People around here are having hard times heating their homes.

I have been thinking about Robert Service and 'The Cremation of Sam McGee'. A warming up tale. Hahahaha.

I do intend to snap out of this, but still my thoughts are valid.

My little girl was just here. Set the garbage out for us. She is all smiles pushing forty and finishing up nursing school. Baby Pat has never ever given up.

20. Can you get some sun?
I know that is one reason I can't live up north anymore. Not enough light in the winter. The thing that always gets me out of a funk is losing myself in making something...anything. Knitting, painting, whatever.

22. Have not seen the sunshine
since I don't know when.

We are steady overcast here on the shore of Lake Erie. Light snow and cloudy for the next week or so. Yes the sun would help.

23. Given any thought to a SAD light?
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 05:55 PM by TallahasseeGrannie
You might be able to get one free via Medicare. I have never used them but here they can change your life.

But take heart. The robins have left Tallahassee, and they'll be in your area soon.

15. I think it is my generation that has failed yours.
I am of the generation subsequent to your's and I suggest it is we who have let your victories slip from our grasp. From apathy & distraction, there are far too many excuses. I share your disappointment and I know we have failed our children and the future.

Take heart, redouble our efforts, we shall prevail.

8. You have not failed...
Sometimes our most important contributions are those that cannot be seen, they are only felt by those with whom we come into contact. It is those 'feelings' and 'vibes' that we give to others that can result in necessary actions. After reading your posts for a long while, I can feel the vibes, and I am sure that i am not alone. Take heart, there are better days coming.

9. Have you taught your children and grandchildren
the importance of their vote? Do they know the importance of not being a racist? These are just a few of the things that I work on with my children ages 24 and 13. We discuss politics, abortion, homosexuality, voting rights, etc. We are a Christian family, however I am pro choice, pro gay marriage, etc. We discuss politics on a daily basis in my house. I was raised in a very racist home in Detroit. The "N" word was frequently used. I have made it my duty to break many of the cycles of racism and violence that have permeated my family. I know my children and all of their friends are so much more progressive than my generation. They are so accepting of all people and for that we should be proud. I am sure you taught your children many of the same things. Maybe our attempts to create compassionate human beings will bring to an end some of the things we get so frustrated about. Eventually, there will be more people of peace than there are these days. Don't get down on yourself. Any person who has the ability to be saddened by the state of our country, must have given the best he/she has to offer to improve it. Sorry for the rant, but I know how it is to be disheartened and I don't want you to beat yourself up!

My wife is a southern girl from South Carolina. There is not a racist thought in her head. Our two children are adopted they have learned by example.

12. You did not fail
nor is tomorrow a place where you, your children and grandchildren won't be. You'll be there; somehow we all will.

There's nothing you have failed to deliver, on the contrary, you might have laid somewhere one of the foundation stones. The building might not be built yet, but the foundation is strong and will support what you call 'tomorrow.'

No failure, oneighty.

I'm glad you're here.

13. I come to the same conclusions
at times. I've already fought these fights. I'm old and tired and just do not have enough left to fight them again. I'm too vulnerable to be effective.

And that pisses me off.

Yes we are. Going where the wind blows us. At times it seems resistance is futile.

21. Now that's wrong - as toothache always goes away. Sooner
or later. Sometimes you have to pull teeth, of course:)

Some other poster has said: You feel the pain, and that in itself shows that you have done what you could.

I'm 52. I'm sick, chronically exhausted, in constant pain. I've discussed just what you said with my best friend more than once. He kept telling me: You tried, you did the best you could. Now you cannot do anything anymore - but others can carry the beacon. And you can still serve as an example.

I think he's right. We can not carry the world on our shoulders. Just a small part of it. And what good we can do there can not always be seen. But you did do good.:)

17. Love you so much, 180!!!
:loveya:

Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow... Projecting into tomorrow requires some sense of stability that the systems and means are somehow constant. Today I accept that that is no longer the case.

I'm quite happy to be so old. Never really expected to hang around here this long. TODAY I coo at babies, tolerate toddlers who want to climb up on my lap on the tram with their damn snotty noses (I'm a fucking toddler magnet! I look at them, smile and say hello, then they demand my undivided attention, which I happily give. Went into a pizza parlor and engaged the son of the owner, damned if the kid didn't scream and cry when he couldn't leave with me. It's really WEIRD!) My kids are adults now... GOTT SEI DANK!

Walking forward into a wind machine.

((((((((((((((((((hug))))))))))))))) for the toddler magnet.

When I grow old I shall wear a red hat and a purple dress and say outrageous things. (JitterbugPerfume told me about that)

I happen to have a red hat and a purple shirt. Haha.

In nice weather I push my four wheel walking/sitting chair up and down the street, resting often. I wear my red hat and a yellow jacket.

Old fool!
