I live in Neocon,Texas-fortunately,my name isn't in the phone book...the editor prints all letters,so I know this will be printed.
I watched with some amusement the supposed "displeasure" of the media pundits at the "politicization" of Coretta Scott King's funeral.Well, they need to pull their head out of the sand and open their eyes-her entire life was POLITICAL.Her daughter's eulogy was a stirring call to arms for all of us,and Mrs.King was smiling from Heaven as she delivered it.We have lost our priorities, people. We put the almighty dollar ahead of what is best for our future generations, and President Bush's budget is emblematic of this. All the programs we have put into place to help lower income people make it are being cut(student loans, mentoring programs).Programs to help those who have poor health,or are elderly are being cut(medicare co-pays,subsidized food programs). The wealthiest citizens are being rewarded with tax cuts that will amount to over $1 trillion in five years-this as our deficit grows. While the defense budget is delegated a huge chunk of our national budget, veterans only receive 4% of the total defense budget-this as more men and women are coming home with life-changing injuries, and while more families are being torn by the deaths of their military members(2252 as of the writing of this letter).I can only conclude that these are the "family" values of the Republican Party-if you are wealthy, your family will do just fine.If you are a working stiff like me,you are in for some hard times.Republicans, look at Coretta Scott King's actions and tell me you are a Christian.Actions speak louder than words.
