So...John McCain has accused Obama of:
"self-interested partisan posturing"?

McCain is in shock because of a perceived lack of cooperation for his reform bill from Illinois Senator Barak Obama:

In a sarcastic letter, McCain accused Obama, the Senate Democrats' new lead spokesman on ethics, of not wanting to sincerely negotiate a bipartisan reform of lobbying.
<snip>
"I failed to interpret your previous assurances as typical rhetorical gloss routinely used in politics to make self-interested partisan posturing appear more noble. Again, sorry for the confusion, but pleased be assured, I won't make that same mistake again," McCain wrote.

That sounded so familiar. I knew I'd heard that before...
Back a couple years ago:

But in a move McCain called "calculated, orchestrated, and cynical," the White House held off appointing Weintraub until last Friday, the day after the FEC had finished carving up the new rules, leaving gaping loopholes through which millions in soft money can continue to be funneled to the political parties. This was exactly the kind of thing the new law was designed to prevent.

McCain was particularly incensed by the baldfaced way the White House reneged on their agreement. "They flat-out broke their word," he told me. "We usually do business in Washington with a handshake. From now on, that will be very hard to do with them. I'll have to question the sincerity of any promises they make."

Somehow, McCain found it in heart to forgive the president back then.... followed by some self-interested partisan posturing ":

1. If McCain was about three feet lower on that picture...
you'd have a truer picture of what he's up to these days.

Independents that would have voted for him if he'd gotten the nom in 2000.

16. Doesn't Bush look disgusted in that picture?
I would be too, if I had some groveling kiss-ass that I had just mercilessly humiliated pawing all over me.

4. That picture needs to be reproduced about 10 million times
and posted on every power pole, wall and fence in the US just in case that POS McCain entertains any ideas of running for pres in 08 (or ever). Undeneath the picture some of the * lies about McCains wife and family should be printed just to show how spineless he truly is.

10. There will be no real reform of lobbying & congress excess abscess
until there is a ban on direct and indirect campaign contributions by lobbyists and gov contractors.

California nurses have caught on to this corruption of our governmental institutions
http://www.calnurses.org/media-center/press-releases/2006/january/page.jsp?itemID=27532103

as has Connecticut

as have the states begun to clean house
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/24/politics/24states.html

Restricting meals and gifts from lobbyists is like trying to spit in the ocean to stem the tide (in addition to being a great big useless sidetrack; the bagmen will just add more to their bags.
