I'm a huge fan of Sue Grafton's "alphabet" mysteries. Her heroine, Kinsey Millhone, uses a technique of writing interesting bits/facts on index cards and spreading them out, trying to see a link or insight she hadn't seen before.
I'd like to try that with the Gonzales hearing yesterday. A number of phrases/ideas struck me for whatever reason. I'm not sure why, but I feel like there is something I'm not seeing that connects them. Something new, that could potentially help us out in making our case.
So I will list them here, and I'd like your help in adding what particularly struck you about yesterday's hearing. But I will really need you to follow some rules if we are going to be able to put the pieces together... so for this thread:
1) If you have an "index card," post info in the subject line only. 2) If you have a theory or other comment, post a dot in the subject line so your theory doesn't get mistaken for a factual "index card". 3) Please no snarky theories like "Yeah, the dots say they're fascist bastards." Limit theories to things that you draw directly from the "index cards" and that are relatively new. 4) If you like the idea but don't have something to add, please recommend or kick (with a dot in subject line)! Thanks!
This is just an experiment, and maybe it won't work, but... here we go.
Not sworn in
"except... by statute."
enemy sympathizers who are U.S. citizens = political enemies?
Let's make legislation we can live with but what in the meantime?
to determine who is a terrorist
multiple types of surveillance (wire, radio)
the program we're discussing right now other programs??
we have authority until congress determines otherwise should be the opposite?
