I wish McCain would have showed this much balls when Bush attacked him!
I am continuing to loose respect for John McCain. This time he attacks Barack Obama, plus he is quoted as saying, "I have been around long enough to appreciate that in politics, the public interest isn't always a priority for every one of us," McCain wrote. "Good luck to you, senator."

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/07/mccain.obama/index.html

I do respect what he has gone through for this country, especially being a POW. I will never discredit him for that. But, many of his political views leave me shaking my head!

1. When he allowed Bush's campaign BS'ers
to talk crap about his adopted child was the line for me. Then later we all saw the photo of him hugging Bush, disgusting.

A man who doesn't defend his family sure as hell can't defend a damn thing.

3. Agreed 100%
Spineless and completely without convictions.

He's a fine one to talk about not having the public's best interests in mind.

9. More details
in an effort to stave off a defeat in the South Carolina Republican primary, The Bush campaign ended up spreading all kinds of information, false information about McCain including that he was mentally unstable, that his wife had -- was a drug addict when she had had some problems with prescription drugs in the past, and that he had fathered an illegitimate black child when the reality was that he and his wife had adopted a child from, I think it was the Middle East at the time, and all of this contributed to with anonymous flyers and the day before the convention, created enormous doubt in Republican voters' minds about John McCain.

10. Oh honey
I remember, so do most DU'ers. I live in South Carolina and saw this stupidity live in my neighborhood. Good, God Fearing fundies love smearing racist crap when they can. At least in my red state locality.

2. McCain showed his true clors when he said nothing about shrub
doctoring his anti torture bill and when after shrub was put on the throne where was McCain? You got it, he was right there hugging and kissing GW's butt. So much for McCains great image.

4. He's a loyal soldier
Although consideration of a few points might be in order.

1. He is genuinely a hawk. He likes the idea of blowing the hell out of the middle east.

2. We aren't going to vote for him anyway. Most of this website, even when his stock was at an all time high, would still have voted for the democratic candidate.

3. The right wing considers him too liberal.

4. He wants to be President someday.

Add them all up, and his comments make a certain amount of sence. I don't think he's as bad as some of his compatriots, he can be an ally on some issues (not that many, but a few). But he's not on our side and never will be.

8. McCain is dead to me
I volunteered for his campaign back in 2000 (when I was young and stupid ;) ). The attacks on McCain and his family by the Bush campaign in South Carolina were disgusting and vile. Then McCain turns around and endorses this slimeball in 2004??? Still really burns me up :grr: He backed the people who smeared his family which makes him just as bad as the scumbags :grr: :grr: :grr:

11. He's staking out territory. He sees himself as the reform king
and Obama is encroaching on his territory. He also wants to use this issue as a foundation for his bid for the presidency in 08. Why is anyone shocked by him taking a whack at Obama? It's entirely self-serving. He can't have some young person upstaging him. He feels it is his due.

21. Yeah...like I said in my other comment below, McCain is projecting
on Obama, and it's a really bad move. Obama has more credibility than McCain, and McCain knows it. This attack shows that he is afraid, and he should be. Can you see McCain taking Obama in a Presidential debate? I can't.

12. What Bush did to him was unexcusable, BUT McCain is far from the moderate
he's pretending to be. I think he's setting himself up for a presidential run by doing high-profile things that make him appear to be the voice of reason. (He made Bush agree not to torture, for example, except on days that have a "y" in them.) We should be cautious about him ... he is not our ally even if he does piss off the RW from time to time. Here's an article with some background.

In fact, McCain has always been far more conservative than either his supporters or detractors acknowledge. In 2004 he earned a perfect 100 percent rating from Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum and a 0 percent from NARAL. Citizens Against Government Waste dubs him a "taxpayer hero." He has opposed extension of the assault-weapons ban, federal hate crimes legislation and the International Criminal Court. He has supported school vouchers, a missile defense shield and private accounts for Social Security. Well before 9/11 McCain advocated a new Reagan Doctrine of "rogue-state rollback."

is trying to steal the reform limelight from others.

He's going to get his clock cleaned.

25. McCain has shown me why I should never vote for him in any race.
No integrity and no guts. And don't give me that shit about "he was a prisoner of war" so he must have guts. Any soldier can become prisoner of war, from slimeballs to true heros.
