1. We admitted we were addicted to oil and our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that the power of democracy could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the power of political and economic democracy.
4. Did a searching and fearless moral inventory of our society.
5. Admitted to ourselves and the rest of the world the true nature of our wrongs.
6. Humbly began to address our shortcomings as a people. 7. Developed a new economic and foreign policy.
8. Made a list of all countries and peoples we have harmed.
9. Made amends to all of those people within our country and to other countries and peoples.
10. Made it an ongoing policy of honesty, truthfulness and compassion as the heart of our society.
11. Made the study of communication, relationship, and society the most important discipline.
12. Having had a social awakening as the result of these steps we carried this message to other addicted nations and peoples everywhere.
