Unscientific American: US Almost Last in Understanding Evolution
Americans rank next-to-last on a survey of 34 nations' acceptance of evolution as a scientific fact. (See the chart, below.) Our awareness of this scientific reality has actually gone down over the past 20 years, no doubt as a result of the so-called "intelligent design" movement and other Christian fundamentalist campaigns. In fact, frequent churchgoers in the US are most likely to doubt evolution. How will their children - and ours - become the great scientists, doctors, and engineers of tomorrow?

2. Shameful.
The literalist talibornagains in this country and those who suck up to them in government have lots in common with the "islamofascists":

"The impact on the scientific climate in the U.S. has been so extreme that one scientific journal, Nature, unfavorably compared the U.S. attitude toward science with that of Islamic fundamentalists in Ahmadinejad's Iran."

Do tell, do tell....

3. Appalling...
it depresses me to think that I live in a country that fancies itself as being so avant garde while desperately clutching onto the most ludicrous beliefs about the origin of the species. :banghead: We're doomed to become a third world non-entity while the rest of the intelligent world passes us by. Oh, we'll still have the capability to blow them all to hell but technologically we'll be left in the dust. Bombs and jesus, soon to be the Unites States only exports.

4. Add to that the reports from medical journals
that ignorance re matters dietary will lead to a shorter life span, so that we will live longer than our children and you can only draw the conclusion that the only things that have grown in the wealthiest society on earth are greed, ignorance and military weapons.
