Global Warming: The Final Verdict
Global warming: the final verdict

A study by the world's leading experts says global warming will happen faster and be more devastating than previously thought

Robin McKie, science editor
Sunday January 21, 2007
The Observer

Global warming is destined to have a far more destructive and earlier impact than previously estimated, the most authoritative report yet produced on climate change will warn next week.

A draft copy of the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, obtained by The Observer, shows the frequency of devastating storms - like the ones that battered Britain last week - will increase dramatically. Sea levels will rise over the century by around half a metre; snow will disappear from all but the highest mountains; deserts will spread; oceans become acidic, leading to the destruction of coral reefs and atolls; and deadly heatwaves will become more prevalent.

The impact will be catastrophic, forcing hundreds of millions of people to flee their devastated homelands, particularly in tropical, low-lying areas, while creating waves of immigrants whose movements will strain the economies of even the most affluent countries.

The sun plays a far greater role on global warming. this link makes a few interesting predictions of its own.

10. That's no reason not to limit CO2 emissions though

the other benefits would be less pollution and disease, and less energy consumption which means lower bills.

14. Absolute, unmitigated BULLSHIT. See here;
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200609/s1740577.htm

The sun's activity can only be responsible for a tiny fraction of global heating at MOST.

Someone ought to put the quacks back in the evaporating pond.

17. Do you believe that? Are you putting one Russian scientist
above all others?

What about Tim Ball and Bob Carter, do you believe them too?

Edited on Sun Jan-21-07 08:13 PM by pitohui
haven't since fdr and won't, more starving is all the better as it is more slave labor for the rich

it's going to be like the running man (stephen king movie) they will be happy to be entertained to watch us kill ea. other for the last scrap of grain left standing

no one is defending our southern border, don't kid yourself

a short while ago i stood there and watched folks waltzing over the border, could have done so myself, without any official checking

our borders are utterly undefended against men on foot and on horseback, we're fighting the last war (airplanes)

hike for awhile along the border, cool scenery, but every few steps it seems you see someone crossing "unofficially" -- and no i don't suggest challenging these people, it is not my job to defend a border my gov't has decided is not worth defending

frozen or dying of thirst.. when enough technitions die or flee ..the water systems, sewage, elictric grid, fuel distribution and food transportation will end.. we will all be on our own.. do you know where to get drinkable water when the tap quits.. or food.. got enough ammo to fight off the gangs... protect your family..

15. LOL!
I do.

But I'd be more interested in unifying and coordinating my community to create solutions for us all.

As well as set up defensive adaptations to deal with the Raiders. -Thankfully their offense isn't up to snuff this year.

I wonder what kind of life our children and Grandchildren will have? The only thing I know for sure is they will be inundated in bills and taxes in order to pay for this unnecessary and illegal Iraq war that bush* willfully, deliberately and negligently brought upon our nation. DAMN HIM TO HELL AND BACK!!!!!!! and back to hell again where he rots and ooooozes into nothingness!

8. thanks for posting ...
I'm doing the guest lecture on global warming impacts in an environmental science class tomorrow. This isn't pretty, but the students need to hear about this (several of the IPCC researchers work here in town).

9. Have you read
some of James Lovelock's (Gaia Hypothesis) recent articles concerning global warming?

We are presently involved in a pretty serious positive feedback loop it seems.

I remember reading much of the IPCC's initial report on global warming a few years back and it seems they are now speaking more frankly and with a greater sense of alarm.

11. yes -- we're doing feedback loops next week
I'm going to walk them through it slowly since I don't want to panic them ... that recent apparent "surge" in atmospheric CO2 levels doesn't look good, and I'm hoping that we've underestimated time lags and negative feedbacks or "traffic bumps" in the system.

18. And in the meantime, the fossil fuel barrons want to invade Iran...its maddness.
It is simply mind numbing that we are talking about starting yet another
war on Iran when the world is dying, or at least changing in ways we
could never have thought of or conceived in our lifetimes.

Gore strangely absent amid cold

Last Updated: January 20, 2007, 06:45:49 AM PST

Where are you, Al Gore, to explain the weather and crop damage during the last three weeks?

:banghead:

We have been having a bit of cold weather here in Calif., so of course Al Gore doesn't know what he is talking about.

:banghead:
