My local Paper reported over 20 U.S.soldiers dead in Iraq. ON PAGE THREE.
It actually reported 'over 20 killed' but this wasn't quite enough to make the front page. Not a mention on their webpage either. www.tennessean.com.

Is this how de-sensitized we've become to war?

3. You are right RD. Why ruin someones Cheerios with dreary war news.
By the time I got to page three I had learned about how wealthy Nicole Kidman was, and what celebrity had a birthday today and what celebrities did last night and/or yesterday. I was steeled for the 'bad' news.

4. Page 3 in ours. But, news on Iraq is always on page 3.
Of course, the knuckedraggers are in a continual state of unhappy because the paper never reports the "good news" from Iraq -- like most of the civilian population hasn't been killed.

5. Notice how the Cincinnati Enquirer reported this
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage

It's all in the presentation. They reported it all right... but they buried the news about the death toll within an article titled, "Gunmen Who Killed 5 GIs Were Disguised", which is a link header on a front page sidebar. It is not front page news.

So you follow that link, and further on in the article you find, this:

"The deaths of the U.S. troops, combined with a helicopter crash that killed 12 U.S. soldiers, made Saturday the deadliest day for U.S. forces in two years. It was also the third-highest of any single day since the war began in March 2003, eclipsed only by 37 U.S. deaths on Jan. 26, 2005, and 28 on the third day of the U.S. invasion. U.S. authorities also announced two American combat deaths from Friday."

Interesting, huh.

Don't know about the Enquirer, but the Tennessean is a Gannett paper, owners of USA Today, who are loathed to bring 'bad' news into your homes.

The ENTIRE USS COLE debacle was over 17 KILLED US soldiers. It's really pathetic.

8. page 1, above the fold, in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
"Iraq crash, attacks take a lethal toll," goes on to discuss the 20 fatalities. But the biggest story (with a huge photo) on the front page was all about compulsive gambling by college students.
