California primary moving to February 5, 2007......???
according to a front page article in today's (jan. 20) LA Times:

since the most populous state in the nation has no say in who will be repub and dem presidential candidates, and since California is used primarily as a cash cow for various national politicians, the governor and key members of the legislature want to put the California presidential primary into early February, instead of June as it is now. Party rules prohibit earlier primary dates to protect the (my term: elitist) first primaries and caucuses in Iowa and New Hampshire.

The article estimates a candidate will have to spend as much as $8 million for a primary because California is so big and expensive as a media market.

don't know how to link to this article as the Times requires registration in many cases.

the archives are currently not working so could not search to see if this has been posted by anyone else.

Nice to see that Hillary's strip mining CA for her "senate campaign" may mean she has to actually come to California and talk to people in person. Same for any other dems candidates.
