Here's a mom I just heard about.
Edited on Sat Jan-20-07 12:29 AM by babylonsister
Her son is in Special Forces. He just went on his 5th tour, and he can't tell her where he's going.
My dear sister-in-law shared that with me; how would anyone feel about this-5TH TOUR??!

I posted a story a few months ago about a man on his 5th tour, had 5 or 6 kids, he died, and I don't think anyone heard me. I should have been more insistent.

4. 5th Tour, Disgusting.
I don't know how they take it. In fact, I don't know why they haven't revolted yet. Even troops as well trained and dedicated as ours can only take so much.

of how long troops were kept in battle zones

9. I Am Betting It Is Worse
and at least in WW II soldiers were fighting to protect us and not to increase profits for the few.

10. Most troops in WWII were NOT in battle zones this long. (US troops, anyway)
Germany surrendered less than 12 months after we put troops
into Europe.
And, although some of our forces spent more than 3 years
in the South Pacific, that was a very different situation.
Actual hostilities there were episodic; no one there ever
faced the same hostile situation EVERY SINGLE DAY for years
at a time.

12. This is the longest war the US has ever had, thanks to the blivet-
who is the direction of my wrath, because he was the decider, protecter, educator, and accomplished nothing. Nothing, just like his previous history, when he accomplished NOTHING. Ever heard of someone having the anti-Midas touch?

15. Heard of it? I've coined a damn PHRASE for it! (it hasn't really caught on yet)
I have, more than once, stated that Dubya has "The MERDES Touch"...

Because "merde" is French for "feces",
and EVERYTHING he's ever touched has turned to SHIT.

19. Merdes, LOL - I Love It
and the fact that it is a French derivative makes it all the more delicious.

22. Yes, it really does, doesn't it? I was especially proud of that.
I really thought that phrase was gonna "catch on" and
spread like wildfire...but, so far, not so much... *sigh*

Oh well, ya win some, ya lose some.

Influencing the entire human race at the subconscious level
is really more an "art" than a "science", so you have to accept
as given that "success" is NEVER gonna be quantifiable, right
from the frickin' get-go.

was my sons best friend and every time they got in a fight he would say I am walking home and several times he was on vacation with us and he would say that and we would be hundreds of miles away from home.

27. I have wondered this for a long while ...
If I were in any sort of service and being sent to Iraq they would get a big Fuck You from me. No way would my assie be sent to an illegal "war" waged on innocent people. The worst they could do is torture and kill me. Which I'd risk as opposed to being a pawn for these ignorant, bumbling, murderous, bunch of thugs.

8. This is so sad, ridiculous, disgusting and heartbreaking, I don't
know what to say anymore. Maybe no one does. We hear these stories and are speechless and dumbfounded.
Who would have dreamed our military....the troops, these kids would be serving this kind of time in an EVENT that looks and kills like WAR, but it's not a WAR. It's like a "Neverending Nightmare".

I am sorry for all of them, their friends and families. I wish I knew more to say.

13. So sorry to hear -- I sure hope he can remain strong.
It seems to me that this guy & others who are overextended in their service are probably feeling weary & discouraged, as though they were stuck in quicksand with no rope or extended hand in sight to lift them out. I can't fully imagine what they're feeling or what those they leave behind are feeling, but it makes me sad when I think about them, which is often. I have two sons myself.

16. babylonsister, we're creating a new monster.
How will our country reincorporate all the soldiers we're damaging right now?

Five tours? The hell we've created -- the hell into which we're forcing our own boys and girls.

Bless the familes who send them off. Doubly bless those who never see them return.

shame...

Raise a fist for me in DC on the 27th.

It's a lot of hell we've created and continue to do so.
My baby sister lives with a guy who has PTSD from VN.
Who is addressing the mental suffering from this war?

I will RAISE A FIST for you, my friend. :kick:

Stopping this war should be right up on the front burner until it ends. and any candidate that wants to be legitimately recognized in 08 better start talking no more war.
