Ever hear of Freda Payne?
When I was a young girl, she performed a song called "Bring the Boys Home". It was an anti war song, begging for the return of the men from Viet Nam.

This morning I heard of remix of the song. The artist intermixed excerpts of Barbara Boxer's comments to Condi Rice about "sacrifice" through out the song.

I was like, we've come full circle. That song should not be pertinent 40 years after it was released. But it is.

Have we learned nothing?

Will that song make another comeback 40 years from now?

Bring The Boys Home lyrics

Fathers are pleading, lovers are all alone
Mothers are prayin', send our sons back home (tell 'em 'bout it)
You marched them away, yes you did now, on ships and planes
To a senseless war facing death in vain

Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
(Why don't you) Turn the ships around
(Everybody oughta) Lay your weapons down

Can't you see 'em marchin' 'cross the sky?
All the soldiers that have died
Tryin' to get home
Can't you see them tryin' to get home?
Tryin' to get home
They're tryin' to get home

Cease all fire (tell 'em 'bout it) on the battlefield
Enough men have already been wounded and killed

Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
(Why don't you) Turn the ships around
(Everybody oughta) Lay your weapons down
(Mothers, fathers, and lovers, can't you see them?)

Tryin' to get home
Can't you see them tryin' to get home
(Have mercy)
Tryin' to get home
Tryin' to get home

Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring the boys home (bring 'em back alive)

What they doin' over there now (bring 'em back alive)
When we need 'em over here now? (bring 'em back alive)
What they doin' over there now (bring 'em back alive)
When we need 'em over here now? (bring 'em back alive)
Bring 'em all, bring 'em all home (bring 'em back alive)
Bring 'em all, bring 'em home now (bring 'em back alive)
(fade out)

5. I heard of Freeda People ....
the subtitle of John Lennon's "Bring on the Lucie" ....

We don't care what flag you're waving
We don't even want to know your name
We don't care where you're from or where you're going
All we know is that you came
You're making all our desicions
We have just one request of you
That while you're thinking things over
Here's something you just better do

Free the people now
Do it do it do it now

Well we were caught with our hands in the air
Don't desapir paranoia is everywhere
We can shake it with love when we're scared
So let's shout it aloud like a prayer

We understand your paranoia
But we don't want to play your game
You think you're cool and know what you are doing
666 is your name
So while you're jerking off each other
You better bear this thought in mind
Your time is up you better know it
But maybe you don't read the signs

Well you were caught with your hands in the kill
And you still got to swallow your pill
As you slip and you slide down the hill
On the blood of the people you killed

Stop the killing now
Do it do it do it now
Bring on the Lucie

8. Yep, I sure do - Freda was on the Motown label
She had another hit, "Band of Gold", back in 1970. "Bring The Boys Home" came out a year later.

I was ready to drive my son to Canada. Now I need to find a place for my grandsons. That song needs to be played every day, every hour.

19. Another oldie still relevant
Steppenwolf's "Monster"
http://www.steppenwolf.com/lyr/mnnster.html
(especially the last half of the song)
Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner
We can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching

25. I've heard this song quite a bit on the radio lately. It's a great
song. This is the song I always remember her by, not that thing about the impotent husband who dumped her on her wedding night.
