BAGHDAD – U.S. officials have drawn up a list of 10 former state-run Iraqi factories they hope to restart within weeks to employ 11,000 people, kicking off a plan aimed at giving potential insurgents an economic reason not to fight.

Paul Brinkley, Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for business transformation, said the factories on the 'top 10 list' are among 200 major factories around Iraq that used to employ more than 300,000 people before the March 2003 U.S. invasion.

1. I still see no reason to wish for the misfortune of Iraqis.
It's ridiculous to compare when those US factories were not exactly competing with Iraqi factories, and if the Iraqi factories could be re-opened successfully, it would have positive benefits for forward deployed US troops within that country. It probably won't happen, but that has nothing to do with US jobs gained or lost, or ire towards Iraqis for having a single dollar spent on their well-being.

6. What socialism? Their model is a fascist spoils system.
Fascist in the political, not racist, sense, where means of production are intimately linked to what political faction you're part of, based on clan, blood, and other mutual interests narrower than that of the state or even economic self-interest.

Just pointing it out since I wonder if anyone else will.

there is no power, there are no mangers, and there is no security. there is no building material,no raw or semi finished material for production, and no market.

5. I couldn't find anything about where they'll be located
Just something about being located around Iraq. So, way up north or way south where it's safer?

Good luck to the dollar short and day late crowd. This reminds me of how they decided to go through the FISA court for wiretaps just as Gonzalez has to appear before Leahy. More gaming the system. Pfui.

They mock us and the Iraqis with their crumbs from a golden table.
