Organizers Of WH Press Corpse Dinner: NO Repeat Of Colbert- Rich Little Told To Be Nice To Bush
WH Press Corpse Bans Roasting Bush At Upcoming Dinner

Little said organizers of the event made it clear they don't want a repeat of last year's controversial appearance by Stephen Colbert, whose searing satire of President Bush and the White House press corps fell flat and apparently touched too many nerves.

"They got a lot of letters," Little said Tuesday. "I won't even mention the word 'Iraq.'"

Little, who hasn't been to the White House since he was a favorite of the Reagan administration, said he'll stick with his usual schtick -- the impersonations of the past six presidents.

"They don't want anyone knocking the president. He's really over the coals right now, and he's worried about his legacy," added Little, a longtime Las Vegas resident.

4. Aren't these demands sounding a lot like what you'd expect from a dictator?
Next thing you know, they'll be rounding up comics and critics and executing them by firing squad.

Do I have to say it - Bush is a jerk.

14. Poor widdle georgie.
:nopity:

This is being set up as the least-viewed, and most ridiculously boring, and irrelevant Correspondents' Dinner EVER. Funny enough, it perfectly corresponds to the nature of the backbones of the White House Press Corpse. Spineless. Nice "harmonic convergence" there. :eyes:

But heaven forbid we offend caligula's delicate little ego.

18. Really. I thought he was dead myself.
And as someone who shares the country of his birth, I can say that I don't really miss him.

His 15 minutes of fame have long since expired.

13. How about they cancel the fucking dinner and/or
donate the money it would have cost to put on the dinner to the surviving families of brave American soldiers slaughtered in Bush's war in Iraq? Or to a fund for wounded & maimed veterans? Yeah, these days the White House is a slambang source of endless yuks and mirth. Did ya' hear the one about the President who thought he was an Emperor?

16. Am I the only one who thinks Rich Little is the WORST "impressionist" ever?
Ever since I was a kid, I NEVER understood why anyone
thought he was so great.

He's just simply NOT GOOD. The man is a POOR MIMIC.
Every single "voice" he does still sounds like him, to my ear.

17. Bush, of course, has such a "thick hide", as he's said himself
And so he has to force comedians to be nice to him. (Rich! Remember that you're from Canada! Even if you were born in the US, the Constitution says they do not have the right to order you around like that! You have a higher duty to your profession, to scorn propaganda in all its forms.)

22. Rich Little can still knock em dead with his new George Burns routine
It's always been traditional at these dinners to roast the president. I guess the school yard bully can't take it. Maybe Little can read excerpts from the book "Bush On The Coach." I'm sure it addresses why Bush is so insecure about getting teased.

24. searing satire of President Bush and the White House press corps fell flat
Total contradiction. If the satire was, indeed, "searing", then it could not possibly be said to have fallen "flat"!

25. Anyone ever see Rich Little's movie about Nixon?
It came out in the early 1970s before his resignation. It's a feature film comedy with Rich Little doing Nixon and a comedian named Herb Voland (General Clayton of MASH) doing Agnew. At the same time, this bizarre little movie has them doing a Laurel and Hardy impersonation overlapping with the Nixon and Agnew personnas. It was strange and very funny. Rich Little used to do a terrific impersonation of Nixon. I saw it only once in the theater but I recall there was a scene with Rich Little as Nixon flipping the bird, there's a fart scene in the limo, and a scene where Nixon (Rich Little) and Angnew get completely wasted and stoned on the golf course. But there was one scene, when Nixon gets up in the morning and mugs into the mirror while shaving, twisting his nose left and right that is so unbelievably funny that I nearly collapsed to the floor of the movie theater when I saw it. The film was written and directed by Bob Einstein (aka Super Dave Osborne, who wrote for and appeared on the old Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour). Steve Martin makes his film debut in this little movie, playing a hippie.

The thing about this movie is that apparently the Republican Party complained about it and it was pulled from its theatrical run after about 4 days. I don't think it has ever appeared on network television and I have never seen it in a video store. It shows Nixon and Agnew as completely hilarious inept buffoons and I'm surprised a Hollywood studio would even finance such a film making open fun of a sitting President. Too bad someone can't do something similar about Bush.
