Is this true? Are the Saudis so hell-bent on keeping Iraq Sunni that they're prepared to march into Iraq themselves, prompting an embarassing showdown with US and British troops?

This is fast becoming a pissing match between Saudi Arabia and Iran. People are going to shit a brick when they see Ghawar, Saudi Arabia's largest oilfield on fire.

7. Saudi Arabia has an important Shiite minority that could cause trouble

Out of Saudi Arabia's approximately 27 million population, about 4 million are Shiites. They've long faced discrimination and have been largely shut out of government jobs. The Sunni tribal chiefs in the Kingdom have for a long time wanted to wipe them out and the Royal Family has interceded to keep the peace. If Saudi Arabia goes against the Shiites in Iraq, I would expect the Iranians to supply the Shiite minority in Saudi Arabia and possibly start a civil war there. That could get very ugly, very fast, as the King might not even be able to maintain order even among the Sunnis.
