But I think the whole experience thing is kind of silly. What kind of experience did Clinton have? Plenty at the state level, but none at the federal level.

21. My ideal ticket in the whole universe

Would have been Barbara Jordan and Charlie Rangel. In part because I'd love to see African American faces in charge and explode a few racist heads :evilgrin:, but mostly because the two of them were/are so utterly awesome. Jordan the intellectual, Rangel the down-to-earth guy who takes BS from no one. Jordan the southerner, Rangel the New Yorker.

I wish we had Barbara Jordan now. Imagine what she'd have to say about the current bunch of crooks. She carried a copy of the Constitution in her purse.

Clinton (I'm no fan of his either) was the Governor in a strong Governor State, Texas has one of the weakest Governors offices in the country. Clinton left his state in better shape than when he started, Arbusto left his much worse and insolvent.

OTOH, there is no position that can prepare one for the Presidency, according to those that have been there.

Obama is not a good candidate because his is black. We don't need a black candidate any more than we need a white candidate or a yellow candidate or a male candidate or a female candidate. We need a candidate who can 1) win and 2) be a good president. Obama can do both. He has great personal appeal. I don't think experience is gonna be a factor. Any more than it was with Clinton....or with Lincoln, another candidate from Illinois with only 2 years in Congress and some time in the State House....

In 1960, President John F. Kennedy named Belafonte as cultural advisor to the Peace Corps. Belafonte was an early supporter of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and one of Martin Luther King's confidants. During the McCarthy era he was blacklisted for his Civil Rights work. He bailed Martin Luther King out of the Birmingham City Jail and raised thousands of dollars to release other imprisoned Civil Rights protesters. He financed the Freedom Rides, supported voter-registration drives, and helped to organize the March on Washington in 1963.

In 1968, Belafonte appeared on a Petula Clark primetime television special on NBC. In the middle of a song, Clark smiled and briefly touched Belafonte's arm, which made the show's sponsor, Plymouth Motors, nervous. 20. I think there are more important factors besides experience

I want a candidate with a strong positive vision for America, the ability to articulate it, and the ability to inspire all of us to follow it. After that, he/she needs to get wise advisers and have the good sense to listen to them.
