Poll question: Looks like Denver will host Dem convention in '08--do you like choice?
It was between Denver and NYC. Apparently Denver had some labor union problems but Chairman Dean got them resloved.

Do you like the choice of Denver as host of the DNC convention?

5. YES. Mostly for selfish reasons, but others as well
I can get to Denver! :bounce:

Now that we have me out of the way, I think it's a good idea to head for the middle of the country. We need speak to middle America more and wake them up out of the long nightmare/stupor they've been in. We need to remind them that the Democratic party is the party of the working person, the strapped-too-tight family and the down and out still trying to make good. We need to take the heart of the country away from them and it's now quite ripe for the picking. We need to better illustrate and illuminate the Republican party as the home of the greedy fat cats, living off the flesh of the ordinary working family while playing them for fools.

Yes. Denver.

7. Mixed feelings.

I have little doubt that the prospect of massive demonstrations in NYC had an effect on their decision. The size and 'energy' of such demonstrations is not likely to be as much in Denver.

Personally, I'd like to see them get 10 times as large. I'm not one who thought it was the demonstators who were wrong in 1968 in Chicago. That was karma, imho. The Party did exactly the wrong thing. It's time they dig the corporate/establishment shit out of their ears.

9. I have concerns re: the response of police here in Denver, too
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 12:50 PM by hlthe2b
I just had to go through advanced Incident Command traning with police and fire folks--though I'm a health person. Among those in law enforcement, the retaliatory mind-set and instinct to link protesters with radical extreme domestic terrorists is not limited to any area of the country nor just with the FEDS...

I also strongly suspect that despite the Denver lawsuit, files on protesters may be continued to be kept, even if not by local police... I can't prove it, but if I were a betting person...

That having been said, I met a lot of senior law enforcement types from throughout metro Denver that seem very grounded and dedicated to "serving and protecting." So, I'm hopeful.
