Gates: Timetable for Troop Boost Unclear

Thursday January 11, 2007

By JIM KUHNHENN
Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday it remains unclear how long the ``temporary'' U.S. military buildup ordered by President Bush in Iraq will last. But he said that the United States should know pretty soon whether Iraqis were living up to their part of the deal and increasing their own forces.

Gates spoke as the Bush administration worked to persuade a skeptical Democratic-led Congress to accept Bush's troop buildup as the last best chance for reversing Iraq's slide.

Asked how long that buildup might last, Gates told the briefing, ``It's viewed as a temporary surge, but I think no one has a really clear idea of how long that might be.''

1. We're forcing Iraq into 30 year oil contracts with Exxon, etc.
Do the math.

3. another attempt by a Bushie to redefine language. It amounts to nothing but a lie
'temporary' means indefinite.

BUSH: "I have made it clear to the Prime Minister and Iraq's other leaders that America's commitment is not open-ended."

4. We're NEVER leaving. People need to quit thinking we might.
And there's no such thing as "victory" or "winning" either. Bush is following the plan set forth by the AEI (PNAC), which involves widening of the conflict from Iraq to other areas of the middle east, and permanence of our troops. It DOES NOT involve withdrawal.

When are journalists gonna wise up to what we already know? I certainly hope members of Congress expose what's really going on.

6. Bush doesn't intend to leave, but, the fight isn't over
he can't sustain anything with the forces he's deploying. Congress will ramp up their opposition. It's just beginning, and, will take some time, unfortunately.
