Is it shameful to admit that we don't have the resources to make the Iraqis submit to us?

Is it shameful to admit that we don't have the resources to make the Iraqis submit to us?
I mean there are plenty of other countries we couldn't pull this on either. Think about China with its 1 billion man army. Could we whip them? No. How about Russia with its fairly small standing army? I don't think we could whip them either. Even the tiny country of Vietnam couldn't be battered into submission. Not by France. Not by us. Even China tangled with Vietnam after us and seen the writing on the wall and left.

So whats the moral of the story here?

Don't bite off more than you can chew.
