A Surge for good
It sounds like our not-so-esteemed pResident has a fight on his hands with regards to this planned escalation in Iraq. Considering there is virtually no chance it'll fly without some serious inspection by Congress, I doubt Dubya is all that thrilled with the situation presented to him by the voters last November.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I hope Congress stands tall and doesn't let these wackos force the issue. Some of our Congressional Dems have shown the right amount of spine, but others seem to be nearly indistinguishable from Republicans in all the ways that matter.

They Republicans have controlled the dialog for too long--if our Congresspeople are smart, they'll refuse to use the terminology spewed from the right. Surge, in this case, equals escalation. It didn't work in Vietnam, and is damn unlikely to do any lasting good in this case. So they should call it what it is. An escalation.

Let's hope they do.

But, if you want to help provide a GOOD kind of surge, I could use DU's help with a poll. The Preditors and Editors reader's poll is up and running and I'm currently in second place for favorite author. Since many DUers know my writing, I'm hoping you all would feel comfortable jumping over and giving me a much needed "surge."

B-)

Any help would be much appreciated.

2. risk
I think we're at risk for developing a 'surge' mentality.

3. Surging is inherently Risky.

One of my first thoughts about it; it's a gold-plated Invitation for some kind of "un-anticipated" INCIDENT involving chem/bio or tactical nukes - from anyone of several actors who would benefit quite a$$$$$$$$$$uradly from the U.S. being PARALYZED and OVER A BARREL!!!! in Iraq. Try to count the number of relevant entities who could possibly be interested in such an outcome.

Risk is HIGH.

:-(
