Ellsberg: "If We Don't Impeach" -Then-"You Are Accepting A Man Who Thinks Of Himself As A Dictator"
Ellsberg said: “I think Bush and Cheney have to go for a number of reasons. One of them is that, frankly, if there is...another 9/11, while they are in power, then I think you will not distinguish this country very much from the police state in Germany in the summer of 1933...We have to get them out. If we don’t try to impeach them, then we accept the legitimacy of the criminal moves that they have already made...Cheney is Bush’s insurance, just as Agnew was Nixon’s during Watergate, in 1973.

“While I was worried that after the next 9/11, that they would turn the National Security Agency (NSA) on us, it turns out they did that on September 12th, back in 2001. They have been doing it for five years, now! These other things--the torture is clearly illegal... it’s clearly criminal to be doing this...NSA wiretaps are already illegal...They did this totally against the law...You are accepting a man who thinks of himself right now as a dictator. If we don't’ tell him otherwise, through the Congress, and through the public in general, he is. And future presidents will be the same. We have to do whatever we can. We have to challenge him to get back some degree of a rule of law and of the Constitution.”

............

Finally, Ellsberg charged: “Bush is saying, ‘I am above the law.’ He is claiming Monarchical powers. That doesn’t mean it goes back to King George III. Rescinding Habeas Corpus goes back to John I--that 700 years earlier! That is really rolling back civil liberties and democracy.” Ellsberg predicted that if the dynamic for change within the U.S. Congress, and also with the public, towards revealing and punishing the criminal antics of the Bush-Cheney Gang, takes place, that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA, will soon end up being for “impeachment, too.”

it's that simple.

17. The case for impeachment has to be made to the American People
to such a degree as Katrina did. Bush's indifference to the people affected by this disaster was too obvious for the mass corporate media to hide anymore. If the congress can make a solid enough case, and lord knows Bush has already given them plenty of ammunition, the Republicans will have to decide to convict or lose more seats, not to mention the White House in 2008.

I also believe Bush has alienated many moderate or libertarian type Republicans with his Big Brother over reach.

31. Exactly. Make that case, convince the people, then we're ready for impeachment
but not before that.

27. We could always go to the White House en masse and run him
out on a rail... Congress, too, for not representing us.

NOTE TO AGENT MIKE: This is suggestion, not an advocation of delinquent behavior. :hi:

36. How can we not get 100 votes?
It would be virtually impossible to not vote for Impeachment when the facts becomes known. anyone that doesn't can be considered an accessory to the crimes.....

5. We are a nation with tens of millions who would rather have a dictator so long as it's their 'puke
dictator: they just don't give a flying f*ck about this once-Republic's Constitution and founding principles for its greed and absolute power that drives them.

If you don't set an example out of them, then others will think its ok to do the same thing. And that is why we should not wait two more years to try to bring about a change in the presidency.

9. When Nancy Pelosi sees 67 votes in the senate, impeachment is on the table
Until then, she is going to be wary of this route.

The situation now is completely different from Clinton. The pugs impeached Clinton for show, to win the next presidential election and to further discredit the Democratic party.

At the 1998 State of the Union address, Strom Thurmond mumbled something to Hillary Clinton that was eventually translated as "they will never get two-thirds," meaning that Thurmond knew there was no way Clinton would be convicted. That impeachment was 100% politics.

Now we have a real danger to the republic, a madman with nuclear weapons who thinks he's above the law.

We can't be happy to impeach him and watch him get acquitted. He has to be convicted if we start down that path.

18. The founding fathers wisely put the impeachment option
into the Constitution as a way to remove criminals from high office. They'd be appalled that chimp and cheney weren't impeached and removed long ago. That the votes aren't there to convict right now is irrelevant. These goons need to be formally charged and tried. Anything less means Congress continues to shirk its Constitutional responsibility.

21. I agree. I'd like to see these corn turds convicted, and perhaps Saddam-ized,
but just to have them impeached would be a powerful message -- to CheneyBush and to history -- that we reject this pissant dictatorship

19. Good for Ellsberg
Both Bush and Cheney should be impeached before they can do even further damage to our country, and our Constitution. If they are not impeached, then what more are we willing to allow a president and vice-president to further do? They crossed the boundary of impeachable offenses long ago. Not impeaching is condoning, and accepting their actions.

If the president can ignore the law of the land, then we are no longer a nation of laws, but a dictatorship. What's to stop Bush to decide that as long as troops are fighting his sham war of "terra", then he needs to remain in office, even if the war lasts the rest of his life? This would have laughable, had we not learned of the torture, and end of habeas corpus.

20. Case in Point: "Troop Surge Already Under Way"...
90 Advance Troops from 82nd Airborne Arrive in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Jan. 10, 2007— President Bush's speech may be scheduled for tonight, but the troop surge in Iraq is already under way.

ABC News has learned that the "surge" Bush is expected to announce in a prime time speech tonight has already begun. Ninety advance troops from the 82nd Airborne Division arrived in Baghdad today.

An additional battalion of roughly 800 troops from the same division are expected to arrive in Baghdad Thursday.

It is the first small wave of troops in a new White House strategy that is expected to put more than 20,000 additional U.S. troops on the ground in Iraq and likely require new call-ups of the National Guard.

22. Our best for a real impeachment is to
investigate every single solitary thing we can about bush AND cheney. GET THE EVIDENCE. GET THE GOODS ON THEM. Then take the case to the public. The republicans will have to vote to get them both out of office. THEY NEED A DAMN GOOD SMOKING GUN. THERE HAS GOT TO BE SOMETHING OUT THERE OR SOMEBODY WHO WILL RAT THEM OUT.

25. lookit, maybe we should impeach both chinney and *ushit
and pelosi if she doesn't get with the program. This is not business as usual, it is a crisis of monumental proportions which if not slapped down will be turning us into a country of despair and despotisim. Now is the time for impeachment and imprisonment. Anyone not with this doesn't understand the enormity of the problem. I mean, habeus corpus? 700 years of law and little boots just shoots it down with a stroke of the pen? What a nightmare.
