Here`s mine:
Good evening. You just heard President Bush call for an escalation of his invasion of Iraq. This AWOL Commander in Chief, who checked the DON`T-WANT-TO-SERVE-OVERSEAS box during the Vietnam War, has decided additional deaths in Iraq are a small price to pay toward the salvation of his pathetic legacy. Although President Bush never served in combat, he`s the perfect spokesperson for the horde of Barco-Lounger warriors infesting our national dialogue. You can hear their "KILL" chants all over their country clubs, or in Vice President Cheney`s case, all over his members-only game preserves. These are the no bloodshed folks, the skate through without a scratch folks who are the first ones to chatter about sacrifice and honor. These are the men who will gladly use a 19-year old recruit for a stage prop or who will willingly invent new lies to make citizens believe they`re not seeing what they`re seeing. It`s high time this chicanery comes to a halt.
What may happen to Iraq should we leave doesn`t worry me half as much as what has already happened to America. Line up 25,000 white sticks in your living room. That`s the number of dead and injured American soldiers. Then remind yourself that`s but a fraction of the price paid by Iraqis, some of whom were nothing worse than innocent.
One hundred and fifty million dollars per day. Say it. That`s what we`re spending in Iraq, at a time when some are still living in campers in New Orleans, or as is the case with approximately 600 Iraq War veterans, have no place to live at all. This is the shining example we`re exhibiting to the rest of the world?
Do not look to your leaders in Congress for a way out of this horrific nightmare. Most are busy straddling that line between do nothing and don`t do much. Look inward and march outward, to your neighborhoods, your street corners, your village squares. Stand there with a sign. Write a letter to your editor. Make a phone call. Sign a petition. Stop supporting candidates who are wishy-washy on Iraq or who enable George Bush to continue his flag-draped slaughter. We the People stopped the war a few decades ago. We can do it again.
