My, how times have changed! We were discussing whether his lie about having sex with Monica Lewinsky, while under oath, was reason to impeach and get out of office. Newt Gingrich, Bob Livingston, and a few other major players were having affairs at the same time they were voting against Clinton. Over and over and over, we saw the clip of Monica standing along the ropeline waiting for Clinton to greet her. Where was the media?

And now, just 8 years later, we have a President that lied to Congress and the American people about going to war, tortured prisoners and secretly transported them to other nations, invaded a sovereign country that had not attacked us, signed over 700 presidential signing statements declaring that he had no obligation to follow the laws the Congress passed because he was the executive and exempt from those laws of the land, eavesdropped on millions of Americans and said he could open their private mail anytime he wanted, put protesters behind fences known as "free speech" zones, declared that the Constitution was just a "piece of paper", and we have folks that argue there are more "important" things to do than impeach the bastard? Go figure?

1. Um, check your subject line, kentuck. The House impeaches, not Senate.
Want some coffee? You usually are sharper than that ;)

9. According to wiki......
"The Senate impeachment trial lasted from January 7, 1999, until February 12."

3. The Republicans destroyed impeachment as a tool of government...
...by politicizing the fuck out of it. It was a really stupid move on their part. It hurt them far more than it hurt Clinton.

And on thiis day, Reliable Sources ran a story on Monica Lewinsky.
The media can't resist sticking it's nose in the dirt.

4. Clarification ...

The trial in the Senate began on this day in 1999. Clinton was subsequently acquitted on February 12, 1999.

He was impeached on December 19, 1998, as others have noted, by the House, which has the sole power of impeachment.

8. Thank you - I was going to post the same thing
Before even Googling I was sure it was in December because I declined going to a holiday party on that same night because I was in such a bad mood that day.
