McCain: Lieberman’s re-election proof Americans don’t want Iraq exit
"...But McCain cited Lieberman’s decisive victory over anti-war Democrat Ned Lamont as proof that the electorate was not clamoring for withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

“Of course I disagree” with the notion that last November’s election was a mandate to end the Iraq deployment, McCain said heatedly in comments to reporters. Gesturing to Lieberman at his side, McCain said, “There’s no way this guy could have been re-elected if it was as simple as that. Americans are frustrated and angry and that frustration and anger is justified. But when you ask most Americans should we get out right away, most of them say no.”

So let me get this straight: Repukes, and that includes sore Loserman, are arguing that "most" Americans favoring a phased withdrawal is the same as sending 20,000+ more human targets to Iraq?

God, my head hurts.

2. Lieberman didn't campaign on more war....
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 06:56 PM by Eric J in MN
He campaigned saying the troops would start coming home by the end of 2006:

25. Was he lying then or lying now?
I'd say he's just a liar...no wonder why so many Republicans voted for him in the GE. I truly hope that the Straight Talk Express and the Last Serious Senator partner up for a Presidential run in '06.

4. One man's re-election in one state is proof of what the entire country wants ...
but a change of control in BOTH houses of Congress isn't?

5. All that Lieberman's
election proved was that he had loyal supporters in Conn. THe Repug candidate was an idiot and I suspect Conn. Repugs aren't nearly as batshit insane as their counterparts in Oklahoma and Alabama.

Don't read too much into this Mr. McCain. Makes you look desperate.

6. Actually it proved that you can buy elections
Lieberman bought that election with Republican money.
It's only a matter of time before we find out what it is going to cost US.

9. Actually it's proof that people don't want contrived, dishonest, equivocating, scripted politicians.
Lieberman is who he is and the majority of CT voters accept that.

26. Problem: Who'll be on top?
Neither will accept the VP to the other. Perhaps Co-Presidents? I hope it happens, but there's to much ego between the 2.

18. McCain/JoeMentum (Ind) ticket in '08? I like it.
Seeing has almost all Dems are against the war now. A "moderate" pro-war ticket would fracture the Repugs and probably remove the last vestiges of the DLC from the Dems.

29. I'll tell you why he won.
During the last few weeks of the campaign, he ran a blitz of ads where he said "I want to bring the troops home as much as anyone else without compromising our nation's security".

That softened the "anti-war" message. LieberLIAR also attacked Ned's image, i.e. a "wealthy man trying to buy a Senate seat".

I wasn't too surprised when I encountered people during my canvassing who fell for this. Experience also was a big deal. People thought Ned didn't have "what it takes" to get the job done. LieberLoser's ads about Ned laying off workers chipped away at his image (which was totally false, part of his company split and those people no longer worked for him. But when they got out of bed the next day they still had their jobs). Ned also responded with negative ads and that didn't play well with the people I spoke with. They were turned off by everything.

McCain can shove it.

Why just bless your hearts. I know you can't help it, it is just who you are. You are doing the best you can with what you got. And don't you worry about it, it will work out one way or another. (Chruch lady put down mid-western style)
