I just received this anti-Muslim email, and I'd appreciate any comments
Since I live in Wyoming, I'm quite surrounded by people who cannot think for themselves. I have been getting somewhat offensive emails forwarded to me by an individual whom I do not want to offend (because I have to work with her often, etc.). Regardless, here is what I received today. (I'm considering responding to this one, but am not sure exactly what to say. I'd like to educate her a little with my response. Any comments will be greatly appreciated!)

Subject: INTERESTING!

This is from a retired Christian preacher regarding Rick Mathes, a well known leader in prison ministry.

Basics of Islam

This is a must read -- it's short but Very informative!

The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion per capita in the United States , especially in the minority races!

Allah or Jesus?
by Rick Mathes

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say.
The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a video. After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers.

When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked: "Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad against the infidels of the world. And, that by killing an infidel, which is a command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"

There was no disagreement with my statements and without hesitation, he replied, "Non-believers!"

I responded, "So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can go to Heaven. Is that correct?"

The _expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

He sheepishly replied, "Yes."

I then stated, "Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr. Stanley ordering Protestants to do the same in order to go to Heaven!"

The Imam was speechless.

I continued, "I also have a problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me. Let me ask you a question. Would you rather have your Allah who tells you to kill me in order to go to Heaven or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to Heaven and He wants you to be with me?"

You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.

Needless to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the "Diversification" training seminar were not happy with Rick's way of dealing with the Islamic Imam and exposing the truth about the Muslim's beliefs.

I think everyone in the US should be required to read this, but with the liberal justice system, liberal media, and the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely publicized.

Please pass this on to all your e-mail contacts. This is a true story and the author, Rick Mathes, is a well-known leader in prison ministry.

10. That is my rule for all such junk.
I go immediately to snopes, copy and paste the relevant info and return it to the sender. If it was sent to many people I do a reply-all.

5. Anti-Muslim email
I believe I saw this several months ago and it is addressed at Snopes.com. IIRC, this is a gross exageration of something that did happen.

7. As always, just hit "Reply All" and type "Please prove it" in the subject line.
Then, every couple of days, politely remind her that you're waiting for her proof, always sending the message to "Reply All." That should stop the unsubstantiated emails.

NGU.

Maybe those particular 2 people wouldn't but you can ask her if she's ever heard of the Crusades. Or the KKK.

12. or the inquisiton.... or the "settling" of the Americas.... or witches... or...
well you get the point.

Islam is about 500 years younger than Christianity, right? What were some Christians doing 500 years ago? Killing infidels. And some still are most likely....

13. Well, the Popes that called for the Crusades
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 12:41 PM by China_cat
promised that those who lost their lives in the fight would be granted automatic entry into heaven. Sound familiar?

(and yes, I just realized that the 'that' in the subject line should be 'who')

Dear (ignorant fundie)

Please stop sending me anti-Muslim propaganda. It's only a ploy by right-wing fanatics to get Americans' minds off the real cause of increased extremist violence, which is Bush's failed war.

Unless you're getting news from international sources, rather than from just ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, & FOX, you're not hearing about it when Muslim leaders speak out against extremism, which they do quite frequently.

Why aren't you hearing about it? Because in this way, the administration can make it "their" fault, even though 16 US government intelligence agencies say that the Iraq War itself recruits terrorists. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/world/americas/5382762.stm)

Accusing all Muslim clerics of actions such as the one depicted in the story you sent me is no different than accusing all Christian preachers of encouraging the bombing at the Atlanta Olympics - which was done by a self-described Christian.

Please don't swallow the government's propaganda on this - only by trying to find the truth can we all begin working toward peace. Believe me, the average Muslim wants it just as much as you do, if not more.. after all, far more Muslims are being killed by the violence than Christians.

Thanks,

(me)

15. the preface is interesting

Why would the thing about "minority races" matter at all, unless you're someone who hates minorities?

Very telling.
