and Iraq.

Is this a beating of War drums.

The show is really making Iran look evil.

When did this happen.

2. There's a strong nationalistic streak in their programming
On balance I think their stuff is informative but there is a lot of gratuitous flag waving on HC (like the "gunnie" from Full Metal Jacket). Also a lot of religious crapola lately. If you have a satellite connection I might suggest the History Channel International - much more in perspective.

9. I usually watch HCI, and really like it.
The only reason I watched HC was because it it one channel away from C-span.

I remember when HC was a decent channel at one time.

The show I just watched made Iran look like they were ready to attack us.

How many people believe this crap.

3. The "History" channel hasn't been the "HISTORY" channel for a long time now

Accuracy and Bias

Some shows, especially those related to the culture and history of nations other than the United States, have been known to include misleading information, whether intentional or not. An examples is a Modern Marvels episode on Plumbing and the History of the Toilet, where it was stated that before the advent of toilet paper, people from the Middle East used their left hands to wipe themselves, referencing their relunctance to use their left hands for other purposes like shaking hands. The missing information is that water was, and still is, used instead of toilet paper, and that certainly anyone using toiler paper would still have to use their hands to wipe themselves.

8. just have to tell you what I saw today
I saw a copy of that fantastic photo (I could OD on its cuteness) at my vet's office, pinned to the bulletin board with the words:

You and Me is friends!
When you smile, I smile
When you hurt, I hurt
When you cry, I cry
When you jump off a bridge
I gonna miss your emails

5. I know. I'd never heard of the "Mufti" until a History Channel program about him...
He was a Muslim who liked the Nazis. Anyone think it a tad odd, how this minor figure is now so important? In all the tellings of WWII I heard during the '90s, not a one shred about the "Mufti" yet viola, now he's being talked about on the History Channel. Who owns the History channel?

17. Speaks more to our Knowledge of World History
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 12:26 AM by Traveling_Home
Our poor education and knowledge of international history and culture is more the problem. The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem is a very important figure to understand some of the history of the Middle East.

From Wikipedia
"The title of Grand Mufti (Arabic: مفتي عام‎ ) refers to the highest official of religious law in a Sunni Muslim country"

Here's about the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem during WWII
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad_Amin_al-Husayni

"Mohammad Amin al-Husayni (ca. 1895 – July 4, 1974, أمين الحسيني, alternatively spelt al-Husseini), the Mufti of Jerusalem, was a Palestinian Arab nationalist and a Muslim religious leader. Known for his anti-Zionism and antisemitism, al-Husayni fought against the establishment of a Jewish state in the territory of the British Mandate of Palestine. To this end, Husayni collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War II and helped recruit Muslims for the Waffen-SS<1>"

The show was nothing but propaganda and of cause they had to link Iraq with Iran.

12. Did you catch their "historical" look at an evil dictator?
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 12:13 AM by Tinksrival
As in Sadam. They went all through his history on how he came to power and the war with Iran and the actions he took with chemical weapons in the '70s and '80s. Not once did they mention the United States backing or supplying of weapons.

I think it's the "Selective History Channel" BOOOO!!! or the "Rewriting History Channel" Hissssss!

18. Must Instill Fear Of The Other If We Are Build The Public Will
to seize their resources.

Their coverage of Mossadegh:

1953. A Democratic movement threatens to overthrow Reza Shah. The CIA provides money and covert support to keep him in power.

Yep, thats it.

The closing with Pollack talking about how we should encourage them to come to the negotiating table with a carrot and stick approach. Someone should inform him the Iran offered to come to the table in 2003.

The coverage of the Iran-Iraq war almost made Iraq to be a poor, beleaguered country beset by a powerful enemy.

The whole tenor of the piece that we, right, would ultimately prevail. Seems not many people, even here, have learned the lesson of Iraq, in that there are a lot of ways to lose a conflict.

Propaganda.
