Bush wishes Saddam hanging had been more "dignified"

Bush concern at Saddam execution

US President George W Bush has said he wished the execution of ex-Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein had been more dignified but insisted that justice was done.

Mr Bush said he expected a "full investigation" of the way the execution had been carried out.

But he said Saddam Hussein had been given justice that "the thousands of people he killed had not".

Saddam Hussein was taunted at the gallows and mobile phone images were taken that appeared on the internet.

Speaking after meeting Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel in Washington, Mr Bush said: "I wish, obviously that the proceedings had gone in a more dignified way.

"But my personal reaction is that Saddam Hussein was given a trial that he was unwilling to give the thousands of people he killed."

It was the first time the president had spoken on the controversial execution. The White House had previously been reluctant to comment.

10. You don't allow sectarian violence to take over
and the tauntings. This casts disgrace on us. I am so sick of W making Americans look like mercenary capitalist bloodsuckers. But, that is his administration.

8. What a bunch of BS.
W controls Iraq. A U.S. military helicopter transported Hussein to his final resting place.

W should be totally ashamed for this action of his hanging. Not in my name.

13. BurtWorm, not fair! That pic! Ugh but
your title vs. pic just cracks me the hell up! I'm sure, your intention!
There isn't anything anyone can say now about shoulda/coulda/woulda. It's a done deal. Those involved or not involved enough need to suffer the consequences, including the blivet.

20. I usually don't correct people for itty mistakes, but this one
relates to a bush blooper that was classic...I was watching coverage of her execution late at night when it happened, and they had a clip of bush talking about why he refused to pardon Karla Faye Tucker...this was b4 chimpy was even on my radar...and he misspoke and said "Karla Tay Fucker"...I wish to god I could find a clip of it, and also that I would have paid attention to what an asshat would become president soon!

23. I wish * had thought about his Iraq invasion/occupation more.
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 12:26 AM by countmyvote4real
Before he dismissed the UN or INF inspectors, he should have thought about it much more. He also should have been more attentive to his military advisers about how things should have proceeded. And then there's those totally undignified war profiteering scandals guised as no-bid contracts. But wait, there's more. Torture. Spying on US citizens. And now reading our mail.

I sincerely hope that * joins me in my desire to see that these indignities are investigated as well. Every despot deserves their due process. Dead or alive.
