Mean Girls-Cheerleaders gone wild in McKinney, Texas
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16441559/site/newsweek

Jan. 2, 2007 - The pictures posted on MySpace.com looked like the latest installment of "Girls Gone Wild." In them, cheerleaders from McKinney North High School in Texas exhibited all variety of bawdy behavior. One shot showed a bikini-clad girl sharing a bottle of booze with a friend. Another featured a cheerleader and several other girls in risqué poses offering glimpses of their panties. But the most infamous photo of all was taken in a Condoms To Go store. Five smiling cheerleaders dressed in uniform posed with large candles shaped like penises. At least one of them appeared to be simulating fellatio. "It would be an overstatement to describe any of the photographs as pornographic, but it would be an understatement to describe them as harmless high jinks," wrote Harold Jones, a lawyer hired by the school district to investigate the incident. "Quite frankly, I personally found it 'creepy'."

1. The cooler spelling is "hijinks," IMO
Even better "hijinx," but then we're getting into free-for-all territory.

Onto the subject at hand--the only difference between this and what's already been going on for many decades is that MySpace wasn't around back then.

7. They should be punished for their behavior toward the coach
The pictures are stupid and they will pay the price for those, in a social sense.

But text-messaging the coach's husband and another coach with obsene messages? Talking in class on a cell phone and refusing to stop when asked by the teacher? Suspend them for enough days that they have to repeat the grade they are in before graduating. If they drop out for the rest of the year, after serving their suspension, charge each one who is 16 and under with school truancy in juvenile court, and get the state to revoke the driver's licenses of those over 16 for not attending school. That's the only way little brats like that will ever learn to change their behavior, because obviously, the parents are indulging them.

I miss my days as a delinquency worker. Sigh.

12. One of the parents...
...was the principal. Here in Texas, HS football players are treated like gods. So why not the cheerleaders? Everybody has seen the stories about what these girls go through to become cheerleaders, why is anyone surprised they are self-absorbed little monsters? I wonder what the football team is like?

22. How would this go over?
""When one teacher told a squad member to quit chatting on her cell phone in class, the girl replied, "Shut up, I'm talking to my Mom." On a separate occasion, she offered this response to the teacher's reprimand: "Pull your panties out of a wad.""

I shudder to think that these Pampered Princesses may be entering the workforce someday. I'm sure they'll be utterly delightful to work with.

Check out WFAA.com, they've done a ton of stories about what was going on with the cheerleaders, the cheerleading coach and the principal. I think they're the ones that the coach went to when she resigned from it.

34. Pretty Mild
When I was a kid I did all kinds of things that were morally questionable. I egged a house or two. Smashed a pumpkin or two (before Halloween even) and sometimes used foul language and made off-color jokes. I even burned down a good size chunk of our fence once because "smoking out" a wasp nest on said fence seemed like a good idea at the time.

It's really not that big a deal. Yes, if I caught my kids doing something like this, they would hear about it...and then I'd probably laught about it later on, because it would remind me of when I was a kid, and acting silly/stupid didn't warrent an end of days reproachment.

I think it's a bit of a leap to compare egging a house (or two) to 16-year old girls simulating fellatio for the cameras, but I guess we all have our own ideas of what constitutes "acting silly/stupid." At what age does simulating fellatio become a big deal? It's a bit of a stretch to suggest anyone believes "end-of-days reproachment" is warranted. How about a happy middle? I do find it hard to swallow (oops!) that any parent would find amusement in their teenage daughter simulating fellatio, but I guess I stand corrected based on your "laugh about it later on" comment.

Who knows, perhaps one of the Fab Five has a bright future ahead as a thong-flashing intern, or maybe even Miss USA. Providing they don't flame out by the time they're 18...

42. Yup...
teen pregnancies, STDs, passed-out sex in which they later cry foul, etc., etc. Trust me, I'm no prude and I don't want to come across as sounding like Archie Bunker, but geez. I spent time over the holidays in an actual mall (something I usually avoid) and was rather shocked at the tarted-up young girls. And by "young" I mean 10, 11, and 12. What's next? Toddler thongs and pasties?

43. Its probably a matter for another thread but
the sexual mores of the US are still years behind that of many western cultures. Back when I was in high school (late 80's/early 90's) being gay made you a total outcast (keep in mind, I'm from Texas). Over Thanksgiving, one of my nephews - who is a freshman in high school this year - and I were talking and she told me "yeah, there's a gay guy in my home room, he's like, the most popular kid in school!" When I was in high school, most people I know would have been very uncomfortable talking about sex with their parents, and this seems to be changing for the better today...there is more education on the subject because it's not the secret it used to be. However, all this seems to lead to a desensitization about sex and I wonder if it contributes to younger and younger kids behind "tarted-up." Sometimes the sword cuts both ways I guess...and I'm rambling anyway.

45. Oh, I'm with ya there - desensitized to sex and violence.
Guess dressing provocatively and sucking a candlewax penis made one of the Fab Five feel all grown up. Don't rush it, ladies, you've got an entire lifetime of "reality" ahead of you! I don't know what the answers are, but when my dental hygienist tell me that her 6th grade son has been approached by 9th grade girls willing to "perform," I'd say there's a problem (hell, I barely knew what French kissing was in 7th grade!). Sex is just one more thing Americans overdo. I'm not sure if sex education/legitimate discussion is causing the desensitization, but the constant media bombardment has to be. I'll stop here because I'm about to wail on Paris and The Y's...

41. I don't think it's right
but I do think it's pretty common now. I guess simulating fellatio is not a big deal to me because sex has never been a taboo topic with my folks/siblings. Had this been me, my punishment would have probably been a kunckle-thump from my dad onto my head and a "stop acting like an idiot" comment. Later, he would have sat me down and said "look, I know you were just horsing around with your friends, but that's really not how we behave, is it?"

I guess I'm just saying that, were I a parent, this sort of thing would warrent a "lets have a little talk" punishment vice a burning at the stake, as some (not you) in this thread seem to have suggested.

32. This could very easily be a story about the Bush family.
Let's examine the similarities.

- Spolied
- Bailed out
- Rules broken for
- Those in authority look the other way
- Those in authority cover for them
- Boozed out drunken haze into their 40's
- Brats
- Go fuck yourself attitude
- Children of privelege and stature
- Children that would be working at Wal-mart if it weren't for their names, or how they look in a short skirt.

I think these girls were simply emulating the Bush twins. Hell, they were emulating the entire fucking Bush family.

38. Story Time
My Grandfather was the principal(father's side) when my father was in high school. Once, after a snowstorm, dad hit the assistant principal in the head with a snowball (no one liked that guy apparently). In a separate event someone started a fight with my father and he defended himself. The other person's shirt got torn. Punishment? My PopPop took the old "board of education" (it was legal then) to dad both times. This was in addition to at home punishment. He also had to buy the kid a new shirt after that fight (even though he didn't start it). I think Dad learned his lesson well.

/end story time

Parents, please discipline your children. Does it have to be corporal punishment? of course not. But please make sure they do the right thing. It will carry over to the next generation! Well, I like to think I turned out ok due to parents caring enough to correct me when I was wrong.

The principal should have acted like the head of the school first and a parent second. There is a way to get both jobs done. I know people who have done it.
