That's it... I have two young boys and there is no way that I would trust my Government with their lives. No way.

2. If we were ever truly under attack...we wouldn't need a draft....
....at least I don't think so.....Everyone would be beating themselves to a weapon to fight off the invaders.....

11. The draft for WWII started in 1940....
before we officially entered war. As a dumb draftee, I'm just saying.

4. I do not think
that there would be many people to draft, were we attacked. I think this younger generation has just as many patriotic, honorable young people as any in American history. And, were we attacked, there are a lot of old folks that could do a fuck of a lot of damage to the fools who attack.

5. Thats the only way I'd support it. I have three sons. 24, 21 and 16.
They feel the same way. Only if we are attacked would they take up arms for this country.

6. what if the "attack" was the UN on a mission to restore sanity to the Federal Govt?
I don't know that I would fight a group which was trying to protect the world from bush.

After all the damage we have wrought on the world in the past 5 years, it wouldn't seem outlandish for the world to determine that bush and his administration were madmen bent on global domination.....

7. Isn't that how we got into this mess in Iraq?
Our Fearless Leader told a weak Congress that Iraq attacked us . . . no questions asked, just a bunch of yea votes.

8. Exactly, and since poor folks are generally patriotic enough
to enlist under those circumstances, a draft would have to go after the spawn of the well off.

That's the only circumstance in which one would work at all.

I'd also want a sunset clause written into it, that the draft ends the second an armistice is declared and that everybody who's lived through it gets to go home, unless they find military life suits them and volunteer to stay in.

12. But what if we were being liberated. Isn't that different?
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 08:05 PM by NNN0LHI
Us Americans have been taught that the proper way to react if ever invaded is to throw flowers on the invaders and dance in the streets. And then we are all supposed to collaborate with the foreign military against our fellow citizens. That is the American way.

To do otherwise would make us terrorists.

At least that the way it was supposed to work in Iraq.

13. not even then-- it is involuntary servitude....
If people want to defend against an attacker then a draft wouldn't be necessary. If they choose not to defend themselves then the government has already lost them.
