Alterman: Shurb "Unpopular, but unimpeachable, ALAS"
A most delicious slap at Tweety among the other media whores pretending Shrub is doing a good job. The link to Tweety in the article is to his "Misinformer of the Year" award.

Unpopular, but unimpeachable, alas

It won’t happen purely for political reasons, but Barron’s, yes Barron’s, calls for Bush’s impeachment, here. And hey look at this, the economists at the extremely conservative University of Chicago think he stinks too. You know, the U.S. economy has consistently performed far better under Democratic presidents than under Republican ones. That’s just an economic fact. How the Republicans have managed to spin it however, is one of the great stories of our day, and one about which someone ought to write a book.

I don’t know if most MSM reporters are aware of the above or not, but if not, it’s because they choose not to be. I mean really, it ought not to come as a surprise to anyone, save perhaps Chris Mathews, that “President George W. Bush ranks as the least popular and most bellicose of the last ten U.S. presidents, according to a new survey,” here. ....

... In fact, as is noted in the first item of the current Harper’s Index, the percentage of Americans who said in November that the Valerie Plame leak scandal was of “great importance” is 51. This is compared with the percentage who said, two months before President Nixon resigned that Watergate was “very serious” was just 49. And the percentage who said the Plame leak was “just politics,” 42. (The source is the Gallup Organization.) It also notes that it has been 130 years since the last time a White House official has been indicted while still in his job. Again, the interesting question here is does the WSJ editorial board seek to misinform its readership deliberately or are they so ideologically certain of their made up “facts” that nobody there even imagines the need to check them? (Another interesting question is what the hell kind of society takes people like this seriously—and even gives them $4 million worth of taxpayer funds to spout the same nonsense on TV, but that is for another day…) Meanwhile, if consistency counts for anything, I’m sure they pretended Nixon was doing great as well.

2. Is this engraved in stone, that bush is unimpeachable?
I beg to differ with Alter. He is impeachable, and he will be impeached, but only if Democrats gain control of the House (and their collective spine).

The good thing is that it's being talked about. The lipstick has worn off the pig, and the people are noticing.

4. I think so, yes.
Republicans would have to develop a conscience and a severe case of political suicide to take up impeachment, especially in 2006. Ironically, sadly, BushCo's need to maintain his grip on power has never been more urgent. To lose control of the Congress is to risk that impeachment so many say can't happen. So, with stakes this high, watch out. Bad, bad shit is gonna happen. These guys have only just begun to fight back. Bush will develop a Nixonian paranoia, and is probably increasing his wire-taps ten-fold since all this started hitting the shitter. He's a cornered rat, capable of anything, and none of it good.

6. I think the earth is shifting - when Barron's says the
offenses are impeachable, this will shake those GOPers who are the real corporatists - the ones that care nothing of the religous rhetoric. What happens next? I think it depends on 'strategy' - can they make * perform the dance the way they want him to or can they find someone to replace him who can do better?

My concern goes beyond impeachment - can we unearth *all* of the lies - from administrations past all the way to the beginning of this nation. Can we finally look at how America treats its people? How America affects the world? Can power be removed from the corporatists?

8. God Bless the paleocons
the old guard are hip to Shrubco's BS. But they're old, and conservative. Meanwhile the vital young neocons run around loudly spreading havoc.

and the media are not about to help. Havoc makes for good video.

18. I DON'T ALWAYS AGREE WITH ALTERMAN..if a popular pres is impeachable
over a fucking sex lie...why is an unpopular pres not impeachable for:
lies to war
lies about spying on americans
spying on americans
outting a cia agent and not getting to the truth pronto..
not upholding his oath of office and deliberately breaking the laws of our land ( constitution)
the abramoff connections..
destroying our economy
destroying our ecology
breaking the laws of geneva convention with torture
and once again ..lying us into war!!

i saw alterman in a small speach set up..and i will tell you he was so blase' about what this admin was doing..and he was unprepared to speak...i was on front row and numerous times he couldn't remember pnac..i had to keep saying it for him..i was not impressed to say the least...

so judging by him saying * is unimpeachable...nahhhhhhhhhh i am not buying..

when one of the most popular presidents in my lifetime got impeached ..i said it would never happen...and it did...

now we are to believe the most unpopular president ( along with nixon) in my life time has been caught spying ..once again from the rethugs...and Alterman says he is unimpeachable..nope ..i am not buying that one...

if all the rethugs think they are going to be handed the exit sign next fall..they will start articles of impeachment and drop this sob like a hot potatoe!!
but first they will put pressure on to remove cheney first!
just like they did with spiro agnew...

this admin is toast!
i remember the same spin bullshit during nixon...

fly

Again, the interesting question here is does the WSJ editorial board seek to misinform its readership deliberately or are they so ideologically certain of their made up “facts” that nobody there even imagines the need to check them? We give $4 million in taxpayer funds to the Wall Street Journal editorial board?

14. I bet we give Rush Limbaugh tax payer dollars as well to be on Armed Force
Radio. Don't know for a fact but the way this government doles out the cash to it's cronies I would be willing to bet that some of our money goes to Limbaugh..Why any tax payer money goes to any news organization or radio broadcast is beyond me...

15. Republican unwillingness to impeach the impeachment worthy...
...should sink them all the next time they're up for election. As it is clear that they've chosen blind party loyalty over public service, not to mention, their Constitutional oaths.
