Is impeachment "back on the table" yet?
Let's fire it up Democrats! And with all the assurances here on DU that Pelosi/Conyers' statements were just "smart politics" to take control of congress, I'm sure it's a matter of minutes before Pelosi/Conyers come out swinging!

:sarcasm:

1. No, it's off the table because it's in the oven cooking...
it's not ready have yet, so it's not on the table. It also remains to be seen who exactly will be the server.

16. Precisely
Let's investigate what happened. Then, if the crimes compel impeachment, we will have no choice.

2. Not until the investigation are over
impeachment is organic when it works

So get ready to write many a letter demanding it

5. It depends - we don't have much time
We only have one year to investigate before the next campaign season kicks off in earnest. If we can't bring charges within the year, we may be doomed.

You want investigations? Fine. You have one year.

15. What's to investigate?
Whether Bush lied us into war? Whether he broke FISA by ordering warrantless wiretapping?

Come on. The evidence is clear. Let's get on with it.

17. Pelosi does not want to put the cart before the horse
If investigations uncover High Crimes and Misdemeanors, then she might have no other choice. :)

6. I'd like to believe that impeachment would be just around the corner.
But Dems have allowed chimp to be selected and re-selected, wage war in Iraq under false pretenses, among so many other things with nary a peep from the leadership. I get an uneasy feeling that the fix has been in since Michael Dukakis, and most likely well before that.

10. The lack of opposition is a huge issue.
Impeachment isn't even a proper remedy. Bush (and Cheney) should be pressured to resign and a criminal investigation should begin ASAP.

Any Democrats that want to "work with Bush for the good of the country" should resign too.

20. Let's hope that there is no connection with his dropping
the impeachment mantra and the delicate way in which this was handled. It certainly looks that way.

18. No Putting The Impeachment Cart Before The Investigatory Horse.
Since we haven't even convened yet, and there hasn't been one official congressional investigation yet, I'd say you have a longggggg way to go and a lotttttt of things that will yet need to happen before you could even bring up the concept of impeachment with any real legitimacy. Longgggggg way to go.

So no, not on the table yet.

21. I look forward to the investigations to expose just how far Bush broke the law
bringing Gonzalez, Rice & Cheney into it, that is if cheney doesn't go the heart/health issues route and resigns once he see's the snowball coming...
