I heard Alex Witt (MSNBC) say it was a soldier from Texas who was killed earlier in the week.

3. excuse me, but difference does it make who it is?
I grieve as much for number 2999 as for 3000 and will grieve as much for 3001 as 3000. I think focusing on one particular death is wrong.

7. didn't know that -- wasn't mentioned in the earlier posts
If it was a relative of a DUer, my condolences go out to them. And those same condolences go out to any DUer who lost a relative or close friend at any point during this horrid war.

10. It looks like #3000

has not been identified yet. According to the period details from here http://icasualties.org/oif/, there were three fatalities yesterday, all still unidentified, but one of them must be the 3000th, unless there are a few more fatalities reported from previous days.

Right now, we are at exactly 3000, so whichever one was most recent must be the 3000th.

Nathaniel Given died on the 27th, and some dozen or so soldiers have died since he did, sadly. :(
