1. DU is well aware of the number of American troops killed
we are also well aware of breaking news

it is NATURAL for DUers to be talking about a news item being DISCUSSED WORLD WIDE. It does NOT mean they have STOPPED CARING ABOUT OUR TROOPS.

8. No one is accusing anyone of not caring about the troops

You know what? You're right. Sorry to interrupt
your discussion of the death of Hussein.
After all, it's "natural." Go for it. You can even be
outraged about his death if you want. Please don't
let me rain on your parade.

get a grip - they - WE- just HANGED SADDAM - we are bound to talk about it for two or three f***ing DAYS. I know it SUCKS they don't give as much attention to our dead troops but HEY we have been talking about our casualties and the plight of the Iraqi people here in the DU for 4 years now; talking about ONE MAJOR NEWS ITEM does not distract from that. YOU'RE MOANING TO THE WRONG PEOPLE.

11. Well, I was hoping I wouldn't have to spell it out but
since you seem to be taking this a bit personal ~~
I was not really referring to DU, I was referring
to WE as a nation, placing so much public attention on
the death of a stinking dictator, when the number
of AMERICAN deaths (YOUNG PEOPLE) have reached 3000.
I couldn't help but ask WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE?
Why isn't every news program showing the pain and
the agony of our fellow citizens as they bury the
bodies of their husbands and mothers for a worthless
cause.

I am talking IRONY here. I was talking about
the fact that we have reached the 3,000 mark
on the number of AMERICAN young people MURDERED
in Iraq and you hear more news about Saddam than
our own dead youngsters, piling up dead in Iraq.

Such a drama is being played out across the
networks (and here) about the hanging of a despot.

Let's be honest -- how much time is actually
spent on the DEATHS, the TRAGEDY, the PAIN,
the SORROW, of having our young people
SENT TO THEIR SLAUGHTER IN IRAQ?

I wish I could honestly say "Excuse me for complaining"
but I wouldn't be sincere. I think it is outrageous
that so much time is being devoted to the death
of a criminal -- when -- IN COMPARISON -- so little
time and attention is being devoted to our dearly
beloved, brave, courageous youth.

you DID say HERE WE ARE so I took that to mean you were talking about US. The nation as a whole - ABSOLUTELY they focus on the wrong things. Me, I agonize over the travesty that is the Iraq war every day - no exceptions.

3. The point is that fascists think that one dead Saddam
justifies 3000 dead Americans, and incidentally, hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis as well.

And another twenty-thousand seriously maimed Americans for that matter.
And who knows how many damaged Iraqis beyond that.

THEY think this.

How can we not talk about THAT and what THAT says about our country?

It's all part of the same horror - don't give up just yet.

4. It upsets me too.
I am also upset when I remember the attentive, almost breathless reporting of the first casualties of the Iraq war and now, well you have seen for yourself.

It is quite tragic to see attention paid to the first dead soldier from your state, but what of the second, fifth or maybe tenth?

The best way, IMHO, to honor the dead and wounded, is to prevent this catastrophe from happening again.

5. Americans are believing the Rove propaganda about Saddam.
Bush doesn't give a damn about Saddam's crimes.
He only cares about the oil Saddam was sitting on.

6. With all due respect to Jerry Ford and James Brown,
the past few days have seemed bizarre (to say the least). Our military people come home in coffins we aren't allowed to see. Their names are rarely mentioned and only hit the front page of their home town papers. We don't know about their families, we don't know about their lives, we don't watch their funeral services. It's as if the universe is tipped upside down.
