went that far back in government. They've both been on the government teat longer than any welfare queen could have ever hoped to be.

How does that work?

4. Both Cheney and Rumsfeld joined the Nixon White House in 1969, I believe. nt
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 07:37 PM by lulu in NC
On edit: both joined the Nixon Administration. in '69. Cheney got a job in the WH in '71, but Rummy had a position in Nixon's cabinet from in '69 and '70.

3. entrenched power and the gilded revolving door
from govt to business and back again

You get into govt., you profit by favoring laws that benefit business in some way, you leave govt, and with your contacts you enter business...and sometimes you go back into govt. to benefit your business cronies and increase yours and theirs profits as well

or

you start in business, you meet politicians...that you favor with $$$$ for their influence of laws/regulations..you leave business, work for govt...leave govt and go back into business

Usually a business that benefits from govt contracts or from govt using laws to help your bottomline...

It's as ugly as homemade sin

7. Which makes this war in Iraq even more inexcusable.
The country has tried desperately for decades to put Vietnam behind us. I think for many the only solace we had was believing our leaders would never be stupid enough to get us into a situation like that again.

Not only were they stupid enough to start an un-winnable war in Iraq--but they were the same stupid idiots who ran the last un-winnable war. Words cannot express my outrage.

11. It's ironic that Ford died at this time
A lot of old history is being talked about - Watergate, Nixon, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Greed, Power, Corruption. The news media is discussing this, people are watching the Ford funeral and remembering that time in our history, and seeing how things are being replayed in the Bush administration. It's like the stage is being setup for, in a few days the Dems take over in Congress and will begin investigations into Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Greed, Power, Corruption, Torture, Illegal Wiretapping, and more.

13. Yes....it's gotten a dialog going on the "Internets" about that Pardon, too.
Bringing up all the connections now when we are in another WAR with no end in sight with criminals in the White House going back to Nixon who now "own the Government" is probably an ironically good thing.

We've got to clean this up now or we won't have much left. :-(

14. The Internets are always abuzz with everything
We have the advantage to discuss just about anything because we have so much access to whatever we want to research and read.

But my spouse says if it's 'important' it's on TV where the multitudes of people can see and hear. So Ford to have died now, right before the Dems take over, is getting America tuned into to the upcoming investigations with those criminals in the White House.

12. Another interesting trivia tidbit: Ford was on the Warren Commission
I haven't heard that mentioned much since his passing away, but then I haven't been following it all that closely either.
