Has DU ever been this divided?
Ladies and gentlemen, does it really have to be like this over Cindy Sheehan? Granted, I haven't been here THAT long, but I've never seen so much division here. Am I wrong to be worried when I see this?

and a good way to kill the time when all other subjects get exhausted! I think that is what is going on here right now-I mean how many times can we rip into Bushco lies that they never get called on without jumping off a roof? There is a lot of supressed anger here that can't be directed where we really want to send it.

35. Gosh, never!
We need something like a good death penalty case, a female teacher having sex with a teen-aged boy, Christianity, or perhaps the presidential primary season to bring us back from the very brink of a disagreement. Now, if the female teacher were to be found guilty of being a Christian, and was sentenced to die in the electrical chair, then by George we might unify in support for her being our choice for VP. Even then, one can't be too sure. We aren't all teen-aged boys, you realize.

49. I've disagreed with some of her moves
Like getting really friendly with Chavez, and accusing Clinton of being as bad as Bush because he imposed sanctions on Iraq, which she claims killed millions of Iraqi children (that figure has never been independently verified as far as I can tell).

But she made it all back in spades with the arrest during the Fascist Monkey's the State of Disunion speech.

President Dimwit lying through his teeth about the need for people to be willy willy nice to each other while his Gestopo henchmen yank and bruise poor Cindy out the door.

PRICELESS!

Don't get down on people who have low post numbers, by the way. I'm finding after a little more than 200 that posting here is compulsive and not a terribly productive way to spend one's time. But I can't seem to resist... the DU force ...

53. DU is very therapeutic and educational
Most of us have been totally politically frustrated since W's (s)election in 2000 and his re-selection in 2004.

I live and work in a very red state where most employers are also very red. There is little freedom of speech without fear of retaliation.

DU provides me a safe haven to say what I really think about W and politics.

I'm not a clucker, I still have my Kerry/Edwards yard sign up. But I am very inhibited in my place of employment and many social settings.

The freeper invasion hasn't exactly been subtle. Not all of them had low post counts, either.

Since the Capitol police dropped the charges and apologized to Cindy for arresting her even though she broke no laws, I would imagine some folks here would have the sense and grace to apologize, as well. I won't hold my breath, though. :eyes:

58. There were Nader wars and the Green battle at one point.
We've also seen some pretty ugly times here when it came to the issues of abortion or gay rights. I'm not EVEN gonna get into the whole Primary war between the "Deaniacs" and the "Clarkies" either. Some of those fights are STILL going on (rather like the Civil War or the War of Northern Aggression as some call it.)

My point is, that as an older DU member, I'll tell you that flame wars go on (and on) here all the time and I expect they probably always will. This is the nature of both politics AND internet message boards. When you combine the two you should probably expect that it will not always be a happy gathering.

I dunno--maybe I'm somebody that has been at this too long, but, it seems to me that it is impossible to be involved at all in politics and not end up cross-ways with somebody at some point. I DO think that the early days of DU saw more civility as a general rule, but we still had some pretty ugly flame fests happen. I remember when DU didn't even really HAVE mods other than Skinner and Earl and Elad--and we functioned.

I do think that we have some people here who are newer to politics. I also think that maybe some of them are pretty passionate and, at times, unreasonably idealistic. I don't see that as "bad" just different than many of the folks that were drawn here in the early days of DU.

I'd be interested to see what Earl or Skinner think on this subject. Other than the higher level of sophistication here, I wonder what they think of DU and its changes (or non-changes.) I hope one of them pops in to offer some insight from the Admin's perspective.

That is what being a Democrat is all about. We are passionate, we have different opinions, we are expressive, we get angry, we yell, we demand, we cry, we make up, we are family. If we all marched in lock step we would be called republicans.
