1. Other: It was a damned stupid thing to do.
I'm also against it for the all the reasons listed above.

650,000 people died so that Shrub could kill that son of a bitch.
What kind of justice is that?

2. multiple, here
Saddam was evil on US watch with US weapons, and this execution is a farce
I don't believe in executing anybody. The death penalty is just wrong.
This execution is just a maudlin and disgusting PR ploy
This execution is a way of preventing a Democratic Congress from investigating the Iraq debacle

3. I'm opposed to the death penalty on principle -- but a lot

of those sentiments have been racing through my brain tonight. I would have voted for multiple answers if that had been an option.

10. I find most polls unhelpful, which is why I don't post a lot of them
They tend to become devisive or have an underlying agenda. (And no one needs the umpteenth thread on whether Hillary/Obama/Al Gore/Kerry/(put your candidate here) can win in 2008.)

But I was actually trying to get a handle on all the emotions that were flying around last night. If I had to redo the poll I would add an option for multiple answers as well as an option for "Will create havoc in the Middle East and increase the possibility of more terrorist attacks on US targets at home and abroad."

14. For a poll with 107 votes and around a dozen replies I think..
..you've probably done one of the better polls I've seen here in a while. I think it's open to debate but I think the best polls are the ones where enough options are presented so that there is little chatter in response. Light vs heat.

15. I appreciate the kind words.
The goal was to actually get a handle on how people felt.

5. smart choices
at first I was like, "good grief, can't there be just 2 or 3" but they all make sense, good job, smart thinker.. and yeah, they all have merit to me, except the first. as a Christian, we wouldn't be in this situation if Christian teachings (from Christ) were followed, but bush failed miserably in pretending to follow those things he says he ascribes to...

what hussein did was evil, but killing him is evil in it's own differing way. let him sit and make fucilli-Jerry's to sell on ebay and pay back the victims, I can't imagine a real prison can be a pleasant thing...

6. different emotions

I'm against the death penalty, so I'm against his execution. And I think will be W's Mother Of All Pyhrric Victories. W may get a woody for tonight when he hears the news, but the violence in the wake of this is going to be horrific, even by this occupation/civil war's standards. And once the bodies come home even faster than they do know there will be a massive grassroots call for impeachment, one that nobody, media included, will be able to derail.

But am I sympathetic to Saddam? No. I recently worked w/ 3 guys from Iraq who moved to Canada in the early 90's; they weren't shedding any tears, especially after hearing their personal stories.

7. I voted "good thing", but it was merely the closest option.
It was the appropriate thing. Not good; it was merely the least inhumane option, when Saddam and the Iraqi public are all taken into account.

9. "Good" can be taken in a relative or non-moral sense here
"Appropriate" is a legitimate interpretation.

16. It was a sick and insane thing to do .
First of all I don't feel the death serves any purpose .

Also I am completely against even photo's let alone actual footage being show on the tv .

I turned on the tv this morning in the hope that I would see they decided not to go through with this hanging and then I was suddenly faced with the live footage , not the actuall hanging but they went as far as showing the rope and the black scarf placed around his neck .

Now due to this I am stuck with this image of horror and it feels surreal and sick to me .

I have to wonder just how far america will go in the future .
