There is no "Moderate" political thinker in America.
Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 03:07 PM by Greatwildbeast
When you think of it their is no such thing as a "Middle of the road" voter in the United States. Sure a lot lot of people define themselves that way but their mindset is nearly always fantasy, not reality.

"I vote for the man not the party" is a common statement of these type. Or "It's the issues not the party".

Think about what this means if put in proper perspective:

What is the middle ground between:

A. Noam Chomsky vs. B. Paul Wolfowitz?

A. Rachel Carson vs. B. George W. Bush

A. Edward Abbey vs. B. Richard Pombo

A. Thom Hartmann vs. B. Ann Coulter

A. Bobby Kennedy vs. B. Dick Cheney

And so on. Can you think of anything more senseless than to combine the philophies of Rachel Carson's and George W. Bush in order to "prove" the mddle ground?

"Let's see... We must consider mercury, lead, cadmium and other heavy metals as extremely danerous. Worse even than DDT. Therefor in my next term I will table the notion of eventually forming a committee to research the feasability of phasing out these deadly, birth defect causing pollutants some time before the end of the calendar year 2200".

How about the middle ground between Abbey and Pombo?

"I think we need to set strict campaign finance reform laws that prevent strip miners, logging companies, and developers from ruining the last remaining wildlands in the U.S. So important is this matter that i've decided to enlist the help of Monsanto, Louisiana Pacific, Phelps Dodge and Kennecott Copper to help us write these strict regulations".

Getting the picture? Now about wars:

"The gross national product includes the rehabilitation and medical costs incurred from our injured troops returning from fighting elective foreign wars. Therefor I propose that there be a voluntary fund set up to assist familes coping with the medical and war related hardships our good troops have been burdened with. This fund should be overseen by our good friends at Halliburton. Will allow all generous individuals to freely contribute to this benevolent non profit program".

A combination of RFK vs. Dick Cheney.

So you see the "Middle of the road voter" is nearly the same kind of fool as the rightwingnutcase. Your MOR just needs to either shit or get off the pot.

He has a choice: Believe the truth tellers in column A.

Or believe the lying liars in column B.

There is no "middle ground".

1. I guess Im just a big fat liar ...
Cause I consider myself a New Deal/Great Society Liberal ...

According to your lame fallacious logic: I Must be either Fidel Castro or Adolph Hitler ... there is NO in between, and I am a liar ....

I could sit here and pound away at my keyboard revealing your sleight of hand by exposing your illogic, fallacy by fallacy ... but FUCK it ...

I have more important things to do .... like laundry ...

2. the imaginary 'average'
the middle 'average' is imaginary. The entirity of corporate media uses this
science of averages to pinpoint the assemblage they want from the culture, but it is
a media-designers statistical illusion, brady bunch friends indeed, a statistical lie.

They teach the kids about statistics, so they can lie to them for the rest of their
lives as they will believe in averages, wishing to stand in the consensual middle so
not to be too far away from the 'average' and be oppressed, not male enough, not gay
enough, not rich enough... The average american is rich i hear, sold by the lie
of the nonexistant average L curve.

4. The problem is not that
there is no middle ground, but that the American people have been deceived about where that middle ground may exist.

5. yes it hasn't been fleshed out
I have this vision of a 3d chessboard, and how
certainl squares are where they place the pieces of their planned cult norm,
like 5 days working 2 days holiday every week,
or being homophobic,
and the media consensus transmits through the disney puritainism,
some spooky stuff indeed for an imaginary society.

Just as simply, the media writers, flesh out another dialectic, suddenly
brittany's fanny is either in your face or not, bush is in it or not, and
they plan a social dialogue as criminally and deviously as any imagination
of tolkien. Abortion for it or against it when the vast majoriy is moved on.

You could redirect british television in to the united states, and
convert the culture to british. Its become that essential in creating
population control and heard identity... and there is no public agent of the
public good, no regulator to demand the design be public at the very least,
that we might choose not to be a police state fearing in every television
show for the police to come in and get our inner spider.

No indepdenent writer has the pervasive media power to inject an alternative
middle ground, to the point where elevating a story is more important in politics
than being of true heart. Police and with us or against us warmongering on demand
on every channel, and the byproducts of that disaster on every street...
