For our own good, Daddy knows best: Gerald Ford
Yep, the one thing that struck me in all the simplistic, cliched coverage of Ford's legacy was this: ( I heard it from Bush, from the local news analysis, from NBC and CNN)

He sacrificed his own political future for the best of the country.

HOWEVER, ladies and germs, and a big however it is-that's BECAUSE what you silly children-you know the American people-the actual voters of the time wanted-but DADDY knew better WAS-you wanted that bad man, Nixon punished. But Daddy Ford knew better. SO instead of giving you silly children who didn't know how to let bygones be bygones like Daddy did, oh no, no, no, you wanted things like truth and justice and bad people punished.

Thank GOD, this brave man sacrificed his political career. NEVER give the people what they want. The voters are children.

In fact I was told that this is his legacy "as a fact" no matter what I think about it by a Du'er. Gerald Ford healed the nation. And who the hell are you, America to ever disagree with Daddy?

And just in case you don't get it-what they are saying is Ford LOST the election to Carter because he pardoned Nixon. In other words, the people WANTED something else, but the powers that be-and Ford as they all are-supports first, last and always the powers that be. The people are just spectators in this Democracy. And then what happened to Carter? OH yeah, that bullshit hostage crisis rigged by Reagan. I'm starting to wonder boys and girls, just how much of Democracy we really have. Not too much, certainly. I doubt we could handle that.

Which reminds me, what percentage of Americans right now want our brave men and women to continue to die for the lie and folly of Iraq? What percentage support MORE troops? Oh yeah, a piddle. But never mind. The politicans always give us whatever we don't want. They always know better.

And in the end, the helpful media is there with whatever propaganda line they need to sell it to us.

WE ARE HEALED, doncha know!

1. All this talk in the news today about the pardon annoys me
I remember hearing it described as a "healing" when it happened and pretty much gave Ford the benefit of the doubt. But today I realize that it wasn't to save the nation but rather the Republican Party, a salvation that paved the way for Reagan and Bush and Bush. The party should've hit rock bottom 30 years ago so it could slowly rise again, leaner but cleaner. Instead, without learning the lessons of a just punishment, the party devolved into some sort of high-tech medicine show.

2. I'm so tired of the "healed the nation" mantra that I could scream.
My republican father was more than outraged when Ford pardoned Nixon - he wanted Nixon to tar and feather. It was then that he mentioned that there are truly 2 judicial systems in this country - one for the rich and powerful, and one for those of the rest of us.

If someone didn't earn my respect while alive I don't understand those who try to rewrite history and to force 'respect' on me after the fact of someone's death.

Then again, I'm just one of the 'mythical little people' that I heard so much about during the Alito hearings.
