Dare candidates to take a NO CRONY pledge...
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 05:04 PM by yurbud
I can imagine Cindy taking this pledge, few Dems, and NO republicans...

This would be kryptonite to the GOP and DLC, and would help us filter out the parasites:

If elected, I will accept no trips, stock tips, meals, or anything of value from those with business before the government.

I will post my schedule of who I met with, what they asked for, and what, if anything, I promised them, in a prominent place on my office's webpage.

I will support any bill requiring public financing of elections to cut corporate influence.

I will not intercede on behalf of any industry to prevent a regulatory agency from enforcing the law and fight the practice of allowing industries to pick the appointees who will regulate their industry.

When I leave office, I will not accept a job as a lobbyist, corporate or finance executive, board member, corporate lawyer or any other position where my access and influence in government could be used for economic advantage.

I will also author or vote for legislation that at a minimum bars the President, Vice President, senators, and Pentagon generals from serving as lobbyists, corporate or finance executives, board members, corporate lawyers or comparable positions for life. If they violate this ban, they should lose their generous government pensions at the very least. I will also entertain any similar proposals and err on the side doing too much, not to little to ban corruption.

I want to serve my country and the American people, not my bank account and a handful of corporations. Elected officials who see public office as a chance for personal gain have given us government contracts and jobs awarded based on expectation of kickbacks not on competence, tens of millions of Americans without health insurance, and wars to steal other countries resources at the cost of our tax dollars, reputation in the world, and our soldiers lives.
