3. After he is sworn in to the 110th
congress lets all send Vernon Goode a copy of the Constitution. He says he is going to place his hand on the Bible to be sworn in, and when they are sworn in they say they will defend and uphold the Constitution. If this guy does not know that you do not have to pledge to any religion before you are sworn in, than he should read the Admendments again and again.

4. I had to read that sentence about four times....
...to deduce what Fish is getting at (you must admit, the grammar is kinda weird), and even now I'm still a bit mystified. When he says "Big Business Ass-licker Mother-Fucking Careerist Who (etc)", who is he referring to? The way I'm reading it now, he's basically using it as a longer, more profane, and more accurate way of simply saying "Congressman," right? Not referring to Ellison specifically, but to the profession of lawmaker in general? Or does Fish mean Goode himself? (It would probably be more accurate in that context.)

8. yep. He does not have a high opinion of politicians
especially those who have made a career in that field. And we all have had our disappointments with elected officials, especially those of us on the farther left hand side of the spectrum.

10. I love parsing Mr. Fish's sentences!
Goode believes the occupation of Congressmember requires a singular commitment to the Bible.

"a different book of cruel and pointless fairytales" = Koran

"Occupation of Congressman" = "occupation of Big Business Ass-Licker Mother-fucking Careerist Who Wouldn't Know a Well-Intentioned Social Democracy If It Fell Over Dead In Front of Him Screaming "HELP ME! FOR THE FUCKING LOVE OF HUMANITY, HELP ME!"

"very particular kind of utter bullshit" = Bible

All together: Goode is upset because Ellison is planning to be sworn into office using a different book of cruel and pointless fairytales <Koran> than Goode who believes that the occupation of Big Business Ass-Licker Mother-fucking Careerist Who Wouldn't Know a Well-Intentioned Social Democracy If It Fell Over Dead In Front of Him Screaming "HELP ME! FOR THE FUCKING LOVE OF HUMANITY, HELP ME!" <Congressmember>requires a singular commitment to a very particular kind of utter bullshit. <Bible>.

9. It reminds me of a joke I heard about Islamophobia
Not long after 9/11, a comedian was decrying the hatred that many Americans expressed toward Muslims. He said, "I want to assure the world's Muslims that I have just as much respect for their 1500-year-old superstition as I do for most Americans' 2000-year-old superstition."

As an agnostic, I follow the motto, "Respect all religions, believe in none." So I can't condone a joke that calls religion "superstition", or a cartoon that substitutes the term "utter bullshit".

But I'm a hypocrite. I think they're both funny.
