NOLA for Convention
It seems that there are not sure whether to have the convention in Denver or NYC.

I read on Wonkette and agree with them, that they should have the convetion in New Orleans.

I think things are cleaned up there and it would definately help the economy while also showing what a failure the Bush administration has been during America's worst day.

1. I agree it would be a strong poke in the eye to the bush administration to
have it there. It would be worth it, even and especially if the area was not cleaned up yet at all.

2. Great Idea but
The city leaders nixed the idea saying the city could not afford it. Things are far from cleaned up in NOLA but progress is being made ever so slowly. I think the city can certainly be used as a place for dems to showcase but the convention would overwhelm city assets.

7. Yes... the hosting city has to come up with an incredible amount
of $$. Given the current shape of NOLA, it will be some time before they are up to that...

4. It was supposed to be here, then they pulled out.
The economy could use the boost, even if it is years off. The preparations that would go into could really help and it might also light a fire under a variety of people to get things "back to normal!"

6. Au contraire!
It would be perfect! A genuine act of solidarity and courage, bankrolled by Hollywood liberals and do-gooders the world over - I'll bet we could make it happen.

9. no we should never again encourage tourism aug-sept
this is peak hurricane season and it is quite simply immoral to continue to promote tourism during those weeks when the current atlantic hurricane cycle could last another 30 years with its increased risk of killer storms, people simply should not be lured here aug and september, there is a reason this is the off season

plus we don't have enough police as it is, will we still have national guard assisting then, i doubt it, an event of this size requires huge-ass security that we can't supply

there is also the issue of we still don't have enough airplane seats to supply the demand

we do need conventions but unfortunately not at that time of year and it is better to encourage other conventions that can come outside peak hurricane season

but assuming the convention would be held in august or early september it would be madness to encourage it to be held in new orleans

another huge storm could happen and that is the most likely time
