Georgia court hands down embarrassing punishment to liar

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Craig Breuwet endured a painfully public punishment for lying to police — he marched up and down a busy road wearing a placard proclaiming “I AM A LIAR.”

Breuwet, 33, submitted to the court-sanctioned penalty Wednesday instead of facing trial for filing a false police report. Breuwet said he has never been more embarrassed or humiliated.

“I’ve learned my lesson,” he said.

Breuwet told police last August that he had been kidnapped by two men in a parking lot, driven to nearby Macon and beaten up. Two days later, he admitted making up the abduction part of his story, police said.

3. Yes.
But they don't make signs large enough to do justice for all of shrub's other sins.
...O...

2. There is a role for shame in society.
It is not always a bad thing to experience shame or regret. Keeps us human and teachable.

10. Shame is a symptom of having a conscience. It does NOT require an audience.
It is, therefore, questionable that this person felt shame. Injured pride is NOT shame.

5. That is some ignorant logic you have there. This man filed a false police report
involving kidnapping and assault. He obviously identified the "perps" with some description. That alone could have led to an unnecessary arrest and detention of an innocent. He, at the very least, wasted precious law enforcement time and recourses.

6. Damn, what makes you so nasty this morning? Nnot had coffee yet?
I was addressing the calling out of a liar, not the false police report. Perhaps his sign should have said "I filed a false police report," but it didn't, it said "I am a liar", ergo my post is perfectly appropriate and requires no "ignorant logic", which is, of course, an oxymoron.

This should have been obvious, but I guess one can take a horse to water but one cannot make it drink.

7. isn't filing a false police report lying?

i think it's a fitting punishment, rather than 30 days in jail.

8. We can all wear that sign
Liars UNITE! Or are you claiming to not be a liar? I would wear the sign and laugh all the way through it. Easy choice against 30 days in jail. If the judge were my own lawyer I couldn't have got him to make it any easier. Since everyone's a liar, there is no shame involved. However, apparently, there are still some people in the world who lie about their status as liars and even grandstand about it. Makes me smile a little, I have to admit.
