For those who missed dear leader's entreaty that we Americans should shop, here's the quote:
The unemployment rate has remained low, at 4.5 percent. A recent report on retail sales shows a strong beginning to the holiday shopping season across the country -- and I encourage you all to go shopping more.

20. Can't. Mine are maxed on medical bills
and trying to care for my father-in-law, an 86-year-old dementia patient with no possible chance of getting into the mostly non-existent nursing homes. No beds. Sorry, Shrub.

2. Non-fuzzy math for George.
Low wages + job uncertainty + inflation (which we do have) = little spending money available for holiday spending.

I'd like to know what he thinks we're supposed to use for money to go shopping with.

25. Another example
People unemployed for long periods are not eligible for unemployment or other benefits and do not show up on the unemployment rates. Thus these low rates are misleading if not out and out fraudulent. The economy is good only for a minority. But the rest of us should shop so their profits will continue rising.

4. Since patriotism is now measured by time and money spent Christmas shopping, 2 questions:
1. Do those who have money and refuse to spend it on Christmas shopping hate America, freedom and Baby Jesus?
2. Do those who do not have money to spend on Christmas shopping hate America, freedom and Baby Jesus? After all, if they were REAL
Americans, they'd have money and would then spend it, wouldn't they?

14. yes and yes
obey your overlords, good citizen . . . they're just watching out for us little people.

(I swear, maybe I've read too much S. King . . . but these Repukes awaken a deep visceral response, whenever I hear them speak. Their voices bypass my cerebrum and go straight to the reptilian mid-brain. Cheney, in particular, gives me gooseflesh.)

5. The savings rate in the US is already less than one percent.
The obvious reason is that we already shop too much. It's bad enough that our government is grossly in dept. It's stupid to follow their example.

23. This isn't because of the corps..
... this is because our economy is slipping into a recession, one that could very easily be deep and long - and the only answer the DictatorTot can come up with is for people who already have no money to spend money.

God the man is a fool.

Spend more and defeat the terrorists. And improve the economy. And solve global warming. And fix Medicare. Whatever is broken, if we go shopping, it will get better.
