1. My response:
So typical. Republicans can't talk on the issues, so they roll around the the mud with the pigs, name calling and smearing. Keep it up! 2008 will just be that much easier to continue the take back of America as the American people grow tired of your stupid antics. Time to get the adults back in charge of the White House.

3. Yup
Obama's name will hurt him in the south because of their instinctive reaction to things that don't sound like Toby Keith all-american boot-in-the-ass politics. But if Obama comes out early with his name, makes a few self-deprecating jokes, it will largely go away.

But I still think his name will be an impediment. Most voters seem to like strong, simple American-sounding names for their presidents. President Obama just sounds too foreign for a lot of voters. Keep in mind that huge percentages of voters don't actually read up on anything; they just go on election day and vote. It's a snap decision.

4. The ones that are really hung up over either "Hussein" or "Obama" would never
vote Democratic, anyway.

14. Think about Southern voter registration
Obama might just take the south on the black and latino vote alone.

17. I know a lot of people from the South

and they hate that good old American sounding name GEORGE BUSH.

Obama is coimfortable with his name and his skin.

Racism is not just in the South it is everywhere.

I will not second guess what will happen in 2008, I prefer to believe that America will be ready for an intelligent President that seeks to restore our dignity in the World.

If not Obama, Ogore or Oedwards or Oclark will be fine.

9. Thank you.
Isn't it sad that the debate in this country has come down to the name of the person running?

13. Did my little bit for negating right-wing idiocy -
Loved this one:

"On the December 11 edition of CNN's The Situation Room, correspondent Jeanne Moos noted that "nly one little consonant differentiates" Obama and Osama. She then added, "s if that similarity weren't enough. How about sharing the name of a former dictator? You know his middle name, Hussein."

Jeanne Moos should note that only one little consonant differentiates between her last name and moose. So what? She should maybe turn into one? Asshole.

20. MUSLIM!!! OH NO!!! What will we do?
:sarcasm: The biggest attack they carried out on him in Illinois was that he was not really African American. That was done in an attempt to turn minorities against him. It did not work.

I live in Southern Illinois and he carried areas here that are still known for their prejudice against minorities, and people did not even know who he was until a short time before the election. The first time the Obama signs showed up in a few yards, a lot of people here were making the Osama jokes. But you know what, that made him stick in their minds and when they learned who he was, they were supporters. He carried areas that did not go for Kerry. It was a strange election. Of course, the southern section of the state does not make much difference because Chicago carries the majority of the votes (Thank God)

I have been accused of being star struck and sensationalizing Obama on this site, so let me make one thing very clear. I am only explaining how people here, who are somewhat like the south in many ways (truck driving toby keith loving red necks), reacted to Obama in 2004. I am not pushing him in this primary yet, because I have not made my mind up. There is two more years before we vote, so I will take my time making my decision. But I did get a Christmas email from the Obama family today, so maybe I should be persuaded by that. After all I am star struck. :sarcasm:

21. Remember 2000 Republican Primaries in S.C.?
Republicans eat their own, they're maggots, and after the push-polling they did in the South Carolina presidential primaries in 2000 against John McCain with allegations of his fathering an "illegitimate black baby", what do you think they will do to Obama the Democrat?

23. should thug candidates whose names have
"Timothy" in them... or "Terry" in them be swiftboated, too? Those were the names of terrorists who blew up the Murrah bldg in OK-- is it because they're not from the other side of the world that it makes it OK not to mention or make issue of their names?

So there goes the sophomoric South Park/Beavis and Butt-head vote, too, I guess. :sarcasm:

27. Banana-fana, Mo-mana
It was inevitable that the right would pick up on the Obama/Osama and Hussein idiocy. There's nothing he can or should do about it, but it's unfortunate, because they'll smear him from end to end with that.
