Freeper Phenom: How to Slander Someone Who Actually Matters

This is not your typical lucker-at-Freeperville giggle session in which I report about something incredibly stupid spewed by some knuckledragger. Understand, I don't lurk at the Free Republic. It's visually unattractive and an intellectual wasteland. Instead, I'm sharing an oddity. Something I'd never expect to see anywhere, but still a phenomenon I've seen before: a rightwinger who spends his creativity slamming someone else in a public forum.

When Will Pitt posted his thread today about his new book, I was impressed. Writing a book takes a tremendous amount of dedication and no small amount of risk. So, when I saw Will's book cover, I lapsed into a Googlefest which I found relaxing and informative. I first read the Wikipedia entry on Will and was further amazed at the detail of the entry on him. The Wiki entries were sometimes flattering, sometimes brutal.

On the first page of my Google search I noticed an entry from the Free Republic. Against my better judgment, I clicked the link. And that's when I saw it: a Freeper no-life hammering away at Will. The critique was typical and totally ridiculous. But what struck me was the pathetic nature of the rant. I'm assuming the screed is a recurring item at Freeper Land called "DUmmie FUnnies"; the DU of DUmmie is capitalized to represent Democratic Underground. Yes, kids, the author (PJ-Comix) dedicates a column to telling tales about what he's read here. That is so sad.

The worst of it, however, is not that it simply exists but that this person with no life was criticizing someone who has a life, and doing a very amateurish job in the critique. It's hateful, juvenile, and pointless.

Will, I give you a tip o'the hat for your openness and activism. You truly stand for something and you are clearly making something of your life. This is in stark contrast to your marginally literate, and very anonymous, detractor.

1. I had come across that a few months back.

The guy seems to live to slam Will Pitt, and other DU'ers who try and make a difference. I had thought about posting about it, but felt the guy did not deserve wasting the bandwidth here.

The guy actually has his own blog site. It's just as bad as the freeper link.

3. The ugly parts of his screed...

... are his parsing of Will's posting into small passages followed by snide and childish comments, including his favorite nickname for Will.

I'm very used to this kind of garbage from the Freeper types -- the hate from there has its own negative energy field. But this sinks to a different level of subhuman behavior because we have an anonymous coward attacking someone who puts his name on his opinions.

and it seems there is quite a bit of jealosy of Will. Someone who writes such childish comments must have some issues of his own. I'm sure he's sitting in his bedroom in his mother's house typing that crap.
