is it true that non violent felons on being released from prison are joining

the military because they can't get a job and/or the military pays more and provides housing/clothing?

heard this from a caller on Wash. Journal this morning.

another caller suggested that non violent affenders should be released early from prison to serve in the militry.

?????

2. It makes sense from this standpoint:
When you are released, you have a record. When you apply for a job, you have to answer if asked that you have been convicted of a felony within the past five years. And it's a vicious circle because you answered truthfully and you don't get the job. You often can't get a driver's license right away. So other than crime as a way to make money, one of the few options left to you as an ex-con is the military. It also looks like redemption on your resume as you wait for those five years to go by.

No, I DON'T like it, but I understand the process where released federal prisoners are indirectly compelled into the military, which is going from one institution into another institution with a higher mortality rate.

3. There was talk of this two years ago. Then it stopped. I guess we are
back to desperate times re: military.
